Em busca de um teto todo seu : a presença feminina na Casa do Estudante Universitário da UFRGS na década de 1980

Abstract

Inserida no campo da História da Educação essa pesquisa tem por objetivo investigar os processos que envolveram a ―invasão‖ feminina da Casa do Estudante Universitário (CEU) da Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS) e as ressonâncias desse episódio na sua estrutura organizacional. O recorte temporal escolhido toma como eixo norteador esse acontecimento, ocorrido em 29 de abril de 1980, e se estende até o final da década por compreender que esses foram os primeiros anos em que a Casa recebeu mulheres. A CEU está localizada na região central da cidade de Porto Alegre e foi criada em 27 de julho de 1971, sendo mantida desde sua origem pela Universidade. Constitui-se em um dos principais meios de assistência estudantil oferecido para jovens do interior do Estado do Rio Grande do Sul e de outras regiões do País que buscam ingressar em uma universidade pública na capital gaúcha. Além de ser uma garantia que viabiliza o ensino universitário, a moradia estudantil configura-se como um espaço de convivência grupal que atua na composição do percurso dos estudantes promovendo noções de direito, coletividade e mobilização social. Até 1982, a CEU não permitia em seu regimento que as mulheres adentrassem suas dependências, o que as impedia formalmente de concorrer às vagas e dar segmento aos estudos. No ano de 1980, período em que o Brasil passava por um processo de redemocratização e os movimentos estudantis e feministas ganhavam novo fôlego, houve uma mobilização para ―invadir‖ esse local com o intuito de reivindicar o livre acesso feminino e consequentemente a moradia mista. Este trabalho foi desenvolvido a partir de um combinado de fontes historiográficas, entre elas a documentação do Arquivo da Casa do Estudante Universitário, a imprensa de grande circulação de Porto Alegre e, predominantemente, as memórias orais de mulheres que participaram do movimento de ―invasão‖ e moraram na Casa nos seus primeiros anos de abertura para o público feminino. Foi possível perceber que a Universidade promoveu inúmeras barreiras para que elas pudessem ter direito à moradia na CEU e, mesmo após o a regulamentação como casa mista, a convivência envolveu confrontos com os moradores homens, o que demonstrou as dificuldades que elas enfrentaram para permanecer no local. Ainda assim, constatou-se que tanto a ―invasão‖ como o fato de habitar a Casa, em certa medida, possibilitou a essas mulheres exercício de autonomia e da liderança. Nesse sentido, essa pesquisa buscou lançar luz sobre um momento histórico de disputa das mulheres pela inserção em novos territórios sociais e de luta pela garantia de acesso e permanência na educação superior.

This research which is inserted in the field of Education Hystory aims to investigate the processes that involved the female ―invasion‖ of the Studen’s House (CEU) at Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS) and the resonances of this episode in its organizational structrure. The chosen time frame takes as its guiding axis this event that occurred on April 29, 1980, and extends to the end of the decade to understand that these were the first years in which CEU received women. The Student’s House is located in the city central region of Porto Alegre and it was created on July 27, 1971, maintained from its origin by the University. It is one of the main resources of student assistance offered to youths coming from the interior of the state of Rio Grande do Sul and from other regions of the country, and looking to enter a public university in the capital of the gauchos. Besides being a guarantee that makes university education possible, student housing is configured as a group living space that acts in the composition of the sudent’s path, promoting notions of law, collectivity and social mobilization. CEU did not allow in its regiment women to enter their facilities until 1982, which formally prevented them from competing for vacancies and giving segment to studies. In the year of 1980, a period in which Brazil was going through the process of redemocratization, the student and feminist movements gained new breath, there was a mobilization to ―invade‖ this place in order to claim free female access and as a consequence establish mixed housing. This work was developed from a combination of historiographic resources, including the documentation of the University Student’s House archive, the popular press in Porto Alegre and, predominantly the memories of the women who participated in the ―invasion‖ movement and lived in the house in its first years of opening for the female public. It was possible to realize that the University set up numerous barriers to prevent women from having the right to reside at CEU, and even after the mixed housing regulation, the coexistence involved clashes with male residents, bringing to life the difficulties they came across in order to stay in place. Nevertheless, it was noticed that that both the ―invasion‖ and the fact o inhabiting the house, to some extent, enabled these women to exercise their autonomy and leadership. In this sense, this research sought to shed light on a historical moment of women’s dispute over the insertion in new social territories and the struggle to guarantee access and permanence in higher education
