Mulheres nas ciências exatas: uma análise sobre enunciações de redes sociais

Abstract

Esta pesquisa tem por objetivo geral analisar de que forma as redes sociais produzem a relação entre as mulheres e o campo científico. Para dar conta desse objetivo geral, dois objetivos específicos foram traçados: a) examinar enunciações sobre a mulher enquanto sujeito da ciência em redes sociais, especificamente o Facebook; b) verificar como são narradas as principais dificuldades encontradas pelas mulheres no campo científico, bem como as estratégias de enfrentamento acionadas por elas em diferentes contextos. O material empírico constitui-se de reportagens de veículos de comunicação diversos, selecionadas a partir de cinco fan pages da rede social Facebook, acompanhadas durante o período de realização desta pesquisa. Como aportes teóricos, foram utilizados estudos contemporâneos provenientes do pensamento de Michel Foucault e da perspectiva pós-estruturalista, basicamente aqueles vinculados às relações de gênero. A análise do material mostrou dois resultados. Por um lado, as redes sociais evidenciam que ainda há dificuldades relacionadas ao acesso e à permanência de mulheres nas áreas científicas. Assim, as estratégias mobilizadas por estas mulheres para enfrentamento das dificuldades incluem trazer o tema para a discussão nos seus locais de atuação e promover ações de incentivo à inserção de mulheres no contexto científico. Por outro, há uma recorrência, nas informações que circulam nas fan pages examinadas, da divulgação de casos de sucesso vinculados às trajetórias de mulheres consideradas bem sucedidas em suas carreiras no campo científico e tecnológico. O argumento principal para o compartilhamento dessas histórias é que as trajetórias podem servir como exemplo ou motivação para outras mulheres. Porém, o que foi possível observar é que essas trajetórias são marcadas pelo enfrentamento individual – e, por vezes, solitário – das dificuldades para consolidar uma carreira e lidar com os preconceitos de gênero. Esse enfrentamento aparece como uma superação que pode ser associada à racionalidade neoliberal em que o indivíduo é o único responsável por sua educação e qualificação profissional.

The research aims to analyze how social networks produce the relationship between women and the scientific field. In order to accomplish this general objective, two specific objectives were drawn: a) to examine statements about women as subjects of science in social networks, specifically Facebook; b) to verify how the main difficulties encountered by women in the scientific field are narrated as well as the coping strategies that they use in different contexts. The empirical material consists of reports of various communication vehicles, selected from five fan pages of the social network Facebook observed during the period of this research. As theoretical contributions the research operates contemporary studies coming from the thinking of Michel Foucault and the poststructuralist perspective, basically those linked to gender relations. The analysis of the material showed two results. On the one hand, social networks show that there are still difficulties related to the access and permanence of women in the scientific areas. Thus, the strategies mobilized by these women to face the difficulties include bringing the topic to the discussion in their places of action and promoting actions to encourage their inclusion in the scientific context. On the other hand, there is a recurrence, in the information circulating in the fan pages examined, of the dissemination of cases of success linked to the trajectories of women considered successful in their careers in the scientific and technological field. The main argument for sharing these stories is that trajectories can serve as an example or motivation for other women. However, what has been observed is that these trajectories are marked by the individual - and sometimes solitary - confrontation of the difficulties to consolidate a career and deal with gender bias. This confrontation appears as an overcoming that can be associated with neoliberal rationality in which the individuals are solely responsible for their education and professional qualification.
