Um quilombo no Matão : historicidade de uma comunidade remanescente de quilombo da Serra Gaúcha (Muitos Capões/RS)

Abstract

Esta pesquisa analisa os processos históricos que deram forma à atual Comunidade Remanescente de Quilombo Mato Grande, situada no município de Muitos Capões/RS, principalmente em um contraste com a historiografia local que silencia, invisibiliza e ignora a presença negra na formação histórica da região dos Campos de Cima da Serra, consequência de uma escrita realizada por intelectuais das classes mais altas e dotados de branquitude, cuja lente não enxerga o protagonismo de pessoas e grupos não-brancos. Através de documentos judiciais, certidões civis e principalmente da história oral, foi possível fazer um diálogo entre história e memória e observar as resistências e as agências das pessoas que fazem parte dessa comunidade, além de entender os significados que esse processo de luta têm na memória coletiva do quilombo. Identificou-se a existência de deslocamentos, formação de compadrios e a compra da terra que hoje é o quilombo, o que evidencia a agência das pessoas na garantia e no exercício de sua cidadania. Além disso, as relações de compadrio estavam também inseridas em relações clientelistas, como aponta o Título de Eleitor de um dos primeiros moradores da comunidade. Na memória, experiências de racismo, de trabalho, de educação, de ancestralidade e de gênero confluem para formar o mosaico da memória coletiva que sustenta a identidade e a força do quilombo Mato Grande. Sendo assim, as experiências de resistência fizeram o Mato Grande ter um processo de formação sólido e que ainda hoje se sustenta principalmente pela ancestralidade, visto o orgulho que existe na memória em residir e manter o espaço “dos antigos”.

This research analysis the historical processes that gave shape to the Quilombo Mato Grande, located in the city of Muitos Capões/RS, mainly in a contrast with the local historiography that silences, invisibilizes and ignores the existence of black people in the historical formation of the region of the Highlands of Rio Grande do Sul due to a writing that was historically made by intellectuals from the upper classes and filled with whiteness, making the agency and protagonism of non-white people inexistant in their lens. Throughout judicial and civil documents, and especially with oral history, it was possible to perform a dialogue between memory and history and to observe the resistances and the agencies of the people that belongs to this community, as well as to understand the meanings that this resistance processes possesses in the collective memory of the quilombo. It identified the existence of movements, partnership bonds, and the purchase of the land that currently constitute the community, something that shows the agency of the people in the execution and maintenance of their citizenship and rights. Moreso, the partnership bonds were set amidst clientelistic relations, as shown by the Voter’s Title of one of the founders of the community. In the memory, experiences of racism, work, education, ancestorship and genre are combined so that the painting of the collective memory can be made, a painting that holds the identity and the strength of the Mato Grande. That being said, the experiences of resistance made Mato Grande into a place with a solid historical formation and that up to today sustains itself in the ancestorship, seeing the proudness that exists in the fact that the people still live and preserve the place of “the ancients”.
