In this work, a solution based on the ADO method is proposed for the radiative transfer problem in a two-dimensional domain, considering the exact representation of the phase function. In studies available so far that use the ADO method, the phase function is usually represented by an approximation, expressed in terms of a truncated expansion of Legendre polynomials. In this context, the proposed representation, based on the exact expression of the phase function, avoids approximations and enables the analysis of arbitrary degrees of anisotropy. The ADO-Nodal method, as the formulation is usually named in multidimensional problems, is employed to solve the discrete ordinates approximation of the equation. The equation is transversely integrated over the regions of the domain, resulting in two one-dimensional equations dependent on the spatial variables x or y. Based on these one-dimensional equations, it becomes feasible to use the ADO-Nodal method to solve the associated homogeneous problem. From the particular solution obtained for the equations in x and y, together with the boundary conditions, the continuity conditions at the region interfaces, and the auxiliary equations that approximate the unknown intensities at the boundaries - considered constant functions in this work - a linear system is determined. The solution of this system provides the coefficients of the general solution of the problem. The numerical results were obtained through an implementation in Fortran, utilizing subroutines from the LAPACK and HSL-MA48 libraries to solve the linear system. The Henyey-Greenstein phase function, expanded in Legendre polynomials, is compared with its exact representation, establishing a relationship between the coefficients L and g, which characterize the anisotropy. Based on this relationship, numerical results are obtained for a test problem in a homogeneous medium, within a two-dimensional domain, and with zero boundary conditions except on the lower wall, in order to validate the proposed new formulation. In addition to this comparison, the results obtained using the exact formulation of the phase function were also compared with those obtained using the Diamond Difference method and the Finite Difference method. Subsequently, a problem based on optical tomography data was analyzed, and the feasibility of applying the proposed formulation to other phase functions was investigated. For the isotropic case, the results were compared with those available in the literature, showing good agreement. For the anisotropic cases, comparisons with other methods demonstrated compatibility between the results, highlighting the validity of the new formulation. ...
