The study analyzed the relationship between language and the bo dy through the investigation of psychosomatic phenomena, aiming to articulate the signifiers perceived through the body. Considering that the signifier represents the subject for another signifier, the objective was to examine how certain bodily affections may be understood as effects of the incidence of signifiers, particularly when they operate in a holophrastic manner. The method consisted of an analysis of the theoretical contributions of Jacques Lacan concerning the body and language, articulated with clinical examples in order to reflect upon psychosomatic phenomena. From this perspective, the body is conceived as an effect of language, insofar as the mark it receives elevates it to the status of a signifier. For such an inscription to occur, something within the signifier must resonate; this resonance indicates that the drive echoes in the body. The findings suggest that, in these phenomena, the body is affected by signifiers that do not become articulated within the signifying chain; instead, they rem ain fixed and act directly upon the body. Based on the understanding of psychosomatic affliction as the result of the incidence of signifiers upon the body in the form of a holophrase, it is argued that one possible direction of treatment in such cases wou ld be to reestablish the movement of these fixed signifiers toward the production of metaphors, allowing them to slide within the signifying chain from the lack that constitutes desire. The reintroduction of desire, lack, and ambiguity into the signifying chain is thus considered fundamental for restoring the circulation of these fixed signifiers. ...
