Migration movements in the 21st century have intensified along the South-South route. On this route, Brazil has proven to be a viable destination for many immigrants, and Santa Catarina has been one of the states that has stood out most in the formal hiring of this workforce. The general objective of this research is to analyze the formal immigrant labor market in the state of Santa Catarina, focusing on international immigrants and specifically on the meatpacking sector. To this end, data from various sources were used, but mainly from the Immigration Portal and the RAIS (Annual Social Information Report) for the period from 2010 to 2021. The research is descriptive, explanatory, bibliographic, and quantitative in nature and is divided into three essays. The first essay aims to analyze recent international immigration to the state of Santa Catarina, with an emphasis on the formal employment of this population in the period from 2010 to 2021. First, a historical overview of immigration and its corresponding legislation in Brazil and Santa Catarina is presented. The results indicated that, in the decade analyzed, there was significant growth in the formally employed immigrant workforce in the state, especially Haitians and Venezuelans. The profile of these immigrants changed over the period, with a predominance of young, Black men with low levels of education. The second essay analyzes the allocation of immigrant labor in the formal labor market of Santa Catarina, regarding remuneration and main occupations, from 2010 to 2021. It begins with a review of the main economic and social theories on migration, focusing on approaches that discuss labor market segmentation and the differentiation between immigrants and natives in access to opportunities and income. The results showed a tendency for immigrants to concentrate in industrial, labor-intensive, and lower-paying jobs, especially in the occupation of butchers. Furthermore, the immigrant labor market reproduces inequalities existing in the state's general market, such as women and Black people earning below-average income. The third and final essay analyzes immigrant labor in the slaughter and meat processing industry in Santa Catarina from 2010 to 2021, seeking evidence of the use of this workforce as a way to postpone improvements in working conditions in this sector. It starts from a Marxist framework, analyzing the exploitation of labor and the importance of a reserve army of workers in capitalism. The results showed that average wages in the slaughter sector were above the state average for the manufacturing industry until the significant hiring of immigrants, especially Haitians in 2015 and Venezuelans in 2017. In addition to the wage decline in the sector, there was an increase in surplus value and profit share in the net revenue of this industry above state standards. Finally, this research found that there was growth and change in the profile of immigrants in Santa Catarina from 2010 to 2021; that they earn lower incomes than the state average and that they functioned as a reserve army of workers for the state's slaughter sector. ...
