Dinâmica estrutural e socioeconômica contemporânea da bovinocultura de corte no Rio Grande do Sul

Abstract

A bovinocultura possui relevância histórica, econômica e social no Rio Grande do Sul, porém tem passado por transformações estruturais importantes nas últimas décadas, especialmente em função da expansão agrícola, da fragmentação fundiária e da reorganização dos sistemas produtivos. O objetivo desta dissertação foi analisar a dinâmica estrutural e socioeconômica da bovinocultura no estado entre 2013 e 2023, considerando a evolução do efetivo bovino, a estrutura das propriedades rurais, os sistemas de produção predominantes e sua relação com indicadores socioeconômicos. A pesquisa adotou abordagem quantitativa, com análises temporal e espacial, utilizando dados da declaração anual de rebanhos da Secretaria da Agricultura, Pecuária, Produção Sustentável e Irrigação do Rio Grande do Sul, organizados por macrorregiões dos Conselhos Regionais de Desenvolvimento. Os resultados indicaram redução do rebanho bovino estadual, aumento do número de propriedades e manutenção da área média, evidenciando fragmentação fundiária. Observou-se ainda tendência de especialização produtiva, com crescimento dos sistemas de cria e cria/recria e redução de sistemas de ciclo completo e não especializados. A relação entre a variação do rebanho e o desenvolvimento municipal mostrou-se fraca e heterogênea, sugerindo influência de múltiplos fatores socioeconômicos. Conclui-se que a competitividade da pecuária de corte no estado tem sido desafiada por mudanças no uso da terra, reforçando a necessidade de estratégias de intensificação e integração produtiva.

Beef cattle farming plays an important historical, economic, and social role in Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil; however, it has undergone significant structural changes in recent decades, mainly due to agricultural expansion, land fragmentation, and reorganization of production systems. This dissertation aimed to analyze the structural and socioeconomic dynamics of cattle farming in the state from 2013 to 2023, considering changes in herd size, land structure, predominant production systems, and their relationship with socioeconomic indicators. A quantitative approach was adopted, using temporal and spatial analyses based on data from the annual herd declarations of the State Secretariat of Agriculture, Livestock, Sustainable Production and Irrigation, organized by the Regional Development Councils. The results showed a reduction in the state cattle herd, an increase in the number of farms, and stability in average farm size, indicating land fragmentation. A trend toward productive specialization was observed, with growth in cow-calf and cow-calf/stocker systems and a reduction in full-cycle and non-specialized systems. The relationship between herd variation and municipal development was weak and heterogeneous, suggesting the influence of multiple socioeconomic factors. The findings indicate that changes in land use have challenged the competitiveness of beef cattle farming, highlighting the need for integrated and intensified production strategies.
