A justiça social liberal : o imposto de renda negativo em Milton Friedman

Abstract

A presente dissertação investiga a tensão entre justiça social e liberdade individual a partir da proposta do Imposto de Renda Negativo (IRN) de Milton Friedman, propondo, ao final, que há um conceito de justiça social similar àquele formulado pela Doutrina Social da Igreja, mas de natureza mercantil, pressuposto em Milton Friedman. Essa justiça social mercantil propõe um Estado mediador que atua para garantir a estabilidade das relações jurídicas e garantir, por meio do IRN, a suficiência material mínima para participar voluntariamente do mercado.

This dissertation investigates the tension between social justice and individual freedom through Milton Friedman’s proposal of the Negative Income Tax (NIT), ultimately arguing that there is a concept of social justice, similar to that formulated by the Social Doctrine of the Church, but of a mercantile nature, implicit in Friedman’s thought. This mercantile social justice envisions a mediating State that acts to ensure the stability of legal relations and to guarantee, through the NIT, the minimum material sufficiency required for voluntary participation in the market.
