A ideologia meritocrática : os vencedores merecem moralmente suas vitórias?

Abstract

O trabalho aborda a ideologia meritocrática difundida nas sociedades ocidentais modernas para responder se a reivindicação moral feita pelos vencedores neste sistema encontra amparo nas principais teorias políticas e de justiça contemporâneas. Diante da pluralidade de concepções a respeito do que seja a meritocracia, o trabalho inicia com a organização desses diferentes conjuntos de ideias em conceitos elementares para a compreensão do tema. Na sequência, é analisada a construção do cenário social atual de responsabilização veemente do indivíduo sobre seu destino, acompanhada do julgamento moral correspondente sobre seu sucesso ou seu fracasso. Por fim, estuda o posicionamento de diferentes autores a respeito da atribuição de valor moral ao indivíduo por seu mérito. Conclui que as diferentes doutrinas de pensamento político e econômico convergem para afastar a reivindicação moral realizada pelos indivíduos considerados vencedores no contexto da ideologia meritocrática.

This paper addresses the meritocratic ideology widespread in modern Western societies to answer whether the moral claim made by the winners in this system finds support in the main contemporary political and justice theories. Faced with the plurality of concepts about what meritocracy is, the paper begins with the organization of these different sets of ideas into elementary concepts for better understanding the subject. Next, the historical formation of the current social scenario of the individual's full responsibility for his own destiny is analyzed, accompanied by the corresponding moral judgment about his success or failure. Finally, it studies the position of different authors regarding the attribution of moral value to the individual on merit. It concludes that the different doctrines of political and economic thought converge to rule out the moral claim made by individuals considered winners in the context of the meritocratic ideology.
