A Territorialidade da Igreja Universal do Reino de Deus (IURD) no bairro Restinga - Porto Alegre - RS

Abstract

Este trabalho tem como tema central a territorialidade da Igreja Universal do Reino de Deus no bairro Restinga, na periferia de Porto Alegre. Esta pesquisa insere-se no contexto das mudanças ocorridas no cenário religioso brasileiro em que há um movimento crescente das igrejas evangélicas, especialmente, as neopentecostais. No campo metodológico, o trabalho recebe aportes da Geografia da Cultural e da Geografia da Religião. Dentre as técnicas há observações e anotações de campo, entrevista e análise das redes sociais oficiais da IURD no Bairro Restinga. Parte-se de um problema de pesquisa que busca investigar como se articulam as ações dos fiéis na produção de territorialidades na disputa de valores e significados da sociedade em uma escala local. Observou-se que existe um padrão de ocupação territorial da IURD que é replicado internacionalmente e que busca passar uma imagem de consolidação institucional. A territorialidade da IURD no bairro Restinga é constituída pelos seus templos, mas, principalmente produzida pelas ações dos fiéis nos trabalhos sociais e de evangelização. Essas ações produzem territorialidades paradoxais, pois, ao passo que reproduzem a principal lógica da igreja, que é ganhar mais membros, conquistar mais territórios, para aumentar seu poder religioso-político- empresarial, também produz relações afetivas, de abrigo e de pertencimento, que acolhem o necessitado e faz bem para o voluntário.

This work has as its centrais theme the territoriality of the Universal Church of the Kingdom of God in the Restinga neighborhood, on the outskirts of Porto Alegre. This research is part of the context of changes that have taken place in the Brazilian religious scene. in which there is a growing movement of evangelical churches, especially the neo-Pentecostal ones. In the methodological field, the work receives contributions from Cultural Geography and Geography of Religion. Among the techniques there are field observations and notes, interviews and analysis of the official social networks of the IURD in Bairro Restinga. It starts with a research problem that seeks to investigate how the actions of the faithful are articulated in the production of territorialities in the dispute of values and meanings in society on a local scale. It was observed that there is a pattern of territorial occupation of the IURD that is replicated internationally and that seeks to convey an image of institutional consolidation. The territoriality of the IURD in the Restinga neighborhood is constituted by its temples, but mainly produced by the actions of the faithful in social work and evangelization. These actions produce paradoxical territorialities, because, while they reproduce the main logic of the church, which is to gain more members, conquer more territories, to increase its religious-political-business power, it also produces affective, welcoming relationships that welcome the needy and do good for the volunteer.
