Por que deixamos de fazer o que sempre fizemos? : instituições, existencialismo e ação coletiva transformadora na teoria dos Campos de Ação Estratégica

Abstract

Embora as teorias institucionalistas sejam geralmente mobilizadas para interpretar a reprodução social, elas também são úteis para compreender os episódios de mudança institucional. É com este objetivo que analisamos neste artigo a contribuição da Teoria dos Campos de Ação Estratégica, de Neil Fligstein e Doug McAdam. Inicialmente, destacando as funções existenciais das instituições, discutimos como elas potencializam processos de engajamento. Em seguida, apresentamos o papel dos empreendedores institucionais na formulação de enquadramentos interpretativos que visam a alterar as expectativas ficcionais dos atores, o que é condição essencial para que estes se engajem em ações coletivas transformadoras. Finalmente, analisamos como crises e choques em outros campos contribuem para a produção de engajamento e a mudança institucional.

Although institutionalist theories are generally mobilized to interpret social reproduction, they are also useful to understand episodes of institutional change. With this purpose, we analyze in this paper the contribution of Neil Fligstein and Doug McAdam’s Strategic Action Fields theory. Initially, focusing on the institutions’ existential functions, we discuss how they boost up processes of engagement. After that, we present the role of the institutional entrepreneurs in formulating interpretative frames to modify social actors’ fictional expectations, which is essential to engage them in transformative collective actions. Finally, we analyze how crisis and shocks in other fields contribute to produce engagement and to institutional change.
