Pamphalea (Asteraceae) no Rio Grande do Sul, Brasil

Abstract

Pamphalea Lag. compreende espécies de habitats úmidos, alagados ou alagáveis associadas às formações campestres distribuídas no Uruguai, Sul do Brasil, Argentina e Paraguai. O Rio Grande do Sul, onde tradicionalmente todas as espécies estão representadas, é o centro de diversidade do gênero. Neste estudo, foram confirmadas oito das nove espécies anteriormente reconhecidas: Pamphalea araucariophila Cabrera, P. bupleurifolia Less., P. cardaminifolia Less., P. commersonii Cass., P. heterophylla Less., P. maxima Less., P. ramboi Cabrera e P. smithii Cabrera. O único registro de P. missionum Cabrera foi desconsiderado. O estudo taxonômico foi realizado por meio de consulta às descrições originais, às fotografias dos exemplares-tipo, ao acervo dos principais herbários no Estado, assim como, foram realizadas expedições a campo incluindo todas as regiões fisiográficas para obtenção de material botânico e dados da biologia das espécies. São apresentadas descrições das espécies, incluindo dados da epiderme foliar, estado de conservação, pranchas ilustrativas, mapas de distribuição, chave de identificação e comentários taxonômicos.

Pamphalea Lag. (Asteraceae) comprises species of humid and wetland habitats associated with grasslands distributed in Uruguay, southern Brazil, Argentina and Paraguay. The state of Rio Grande do Sul, where traditionally all species are represented, is the center of diversity of the genus. In this study, eight of the nine previously recognized species were confirmed: Pamphalea araucariophila Cabrera, P. bupleurifolia Less., P. cardaminifolia Less., P. commersonii Cass., P. heterophylla Less., P. maxima Less., P. ramboi Cabrera and P. smithii Cabrera. The only record of P. missionum Cabrera was disregarded. The taxonomic study was conducted through the consultation of the original descriptions, the images of type-specimens, the collections of the main herbaria in the state, as well as field expeditions that were carried out including all physiographic regions in order to obtain botanic material and data on the biology of the species. Here are presented species descriptions including data on the foliar epidermis, conservation status, illustrative plates, distributional maps, identification key and taxonomic remarks.
