Este trabalho versa sobre as vantagens da construção de telhados verdes, em comparação com os telhados que utilizam métodos convencionais. Frente à crescente necessidade de adaptação das edificações para minimizar os impactos ambientais causados com a urbanização desenfreada das grandes cidades, tais problemas como o efeito estufa, ilhas de calor e prejuízos com a absorção da água das chuvas devido à impermeabilização do solo causados pela retirada da vegetação. Estão sendo buscadas soluções. Estudos comprovam que os telhados verdes são uma alternativa para amenizar estes impactos. Esse trabalho faz a comparação, quanto aos aspectos de custos de construção, entre coberturas que utilizam vegetação (telhados verdes) e os convencionais que utilizam telhas de fibrocimento e cerâmicas do tipo francesa em suas coberturas. Foram abordados telhados que se adaptam ao clima da região analisada. Através de pesquisa bibliográfica estabeleceu-se aspectos para definição dos custos de execução levando em consideração materiais utilizados, prazos de execução e necessidade de mão de obra. Primeiramente, foi realizado um projeto padrão de edificação que atendia às exigências de execução dos três tipos de coberturas para uma residência unifamiliar, a fim de evitar problemas que pudessem comprometer a comparação dos custos de execução. A seguir foram caracterizados os três tipos de telhados com seus respectivos métodos construtivos e, de posse destes dados, foram estabelecidos seus custos. A partir deste ponto, verificou-se que o maior custo era o telhado verde, cerca de 81,06% e de 24,74% em comparação com as coberturas que utilizam telhas de fibrocimento e cerâmicas do tipo francesa respectivamente. Ao término do estudo foram apresentadas as vantagens e os benefícios na utilização do telhado verde, a fim de buscar justificativas para sua implantação. O conforto térmico e o controle no escoamento da água das chuvas são alguns exemplos de pesquisas acadêmicas que comprovam as vantagens na utilização do telhado verde. ...
