A função paterna primária : o lugar do pai durante a gestação e no início da vida do bebê

Abstract

O presente trabalho teve por objetivo investigar como se dá, atualmente, a função paterna em termos de interação, presença e comportamentos que caberiam ao pai no último trimestre de gestação da esposa e no terceiro mês de vida do bebê. Participaram deste estudo dois pais que esperavam seu primeiro filho aos 34 anos. Os pais foram entrevistados individualmente e as suas respostas foram examinadas através da análise de conteúdo. Os resultados indicaram que há um processo emocional significativo rumo à paternidade, quando os pais se deparam com uma série de sentimentos e mudanças pessoais e profissionais. Foi também verificado que estes pais realizam várias funções maternas de cuidado sem deixar de cumprir sua função paterna, entre elas o cuidado com a saúde física e o apoio e suporte emocional à gestante e mãe. Embora este estudo não tivesse a pretensão de se referir a todos os pais da atualidade, apontou indicativos de haver uma nova modalidade de paternidade, mais presente, participativa e afetiva.

The present study aimed to investigate how occurs the paternal function in terms of interaction, presence and behaviors that are due to the father in the last trimester of the wife´s gestation and third month of the baby's life currently. The study included two parents who were expecting their first child at age 34. Parents were interviewed individually and their responses were examined through the content analysis. The results indicated that there is a significant emotional process toward fatherhood, when parents are faced with a range of feelings and personal and professional changes. It was also found that these parents realize various functions of maternal care while fulfilling their fatherly role, among them, the physical health care and emotional support to the pregnant woman and mother. Although this study did not have the intention of referring to all parents today, pointed indicative of there being a new kind of fatherhood, more present, participatory and affective.
