Abstract in Portuguese (Brasil)

This research is about the use given to the agate, which is one of the most abundant gemological materials in Rio Grande do Sul. The agate, a variety of chalcedony, is very valued by the external markets. The lack of processing given to this material is one of the points of interest of the researchers group from the LdSM – Design and Material Selection Laboratory. A secondary porosity was generated due the utilization of engrave technique on the agate surface. This porosity is able to store, in its cavities, microcapsules. Fluorescent microcapsules containing the pigment rhodamine B were used in this research. The traces produced in the agate by the action of a 60 W laser and varied velocities - 2 to 65 m/min - were analyzed concerned on the distribution and dimensions of the generated porosity and consequently its capacity to store the florescent microcapsules. Gaps of 2 until 10m/min are able to store fluorescent microcapsules. ...
