This study investigates the figure of the malandro (a multifaceted Brazilian archetype often associated with the picaresque and the trickster) analyzing the role of his female counterpart within social dynamics and her relationship of dependence and subversion vis-à-vis the male protagonist. The research takes as its object of analysis the character Joana, from the Brazilian tragedy Gota d’água (1975), by Chico Buarque and Paulo Pontes, proposing a reading that distinguishes her from the traditional female representations found in works such as Memórias de um Sargento de Milícias. The research is justified by the singularity of Joana, whose trajectory, by opposing both the established order and the trickery of her partner, Jasão, points toward an independence absent in earlier characters, who were frequently reduced to domestic support roles. Methodologically, the work articulates a bibliographic review based on authors such as Antonio Candido (1970), Roberto DaMatta (1997), and Cláudia Matos (1982), seeking to understand the socio-historical processes that enabled the consolidation of the malandro subject and the transformations of this figure throughout the 20th century. The analysis is structured into two main parts: the first examines the tension between order and disorder in the play, observing how Jasão’s cunning circulates between these two poles; the second focuses on the critical construction of the protagonist, questioning to what extent her reaction to the usurpation of her dignity can be interpreted through the concepts of renunciation and antimalandragem. It is concluded that the character invites a re-reading of the malandro universe, shedding light on dimensions of the female role that remain underestimated in brazilian literary studies. ...
