Museologias não exemplares : ética da ontoformatividade em práticas de extensão universitária nos museus da UFPEL

Abstract

Esta tese analisa como as práticas museológicas realizadas por meio da extensão universitária da Universidade Federal de Pelotas (UFPel) constituem museologias que desafiam, inovam ou até desconsideram os modelos hegemônicos da disciplina, desta forma configurando o que chamei de "museologias não exemplares". O problema central da investigação advém da distância que sempre percebi entre a prática cotidiana em museus e a teorização vigente, logo levantei as seguintes questões: quais são as condições de existência dessas práticas museológicas? E elas podem ser caracterizadas apenas com as categorias teóricas estabelecidas? Para respondê-las, a pesquisa se concentrou em mapear as redes sociotécnicas que sustentam as ações no Museu de Ciências Naturais Carlos Ritter (MCNCR), vinculado à UFPel. A pesquisa utilizou entrevistas semiestruturadas com a informante-chave atuante na execução das ações museológicas no museu e observação participante orientada pelos preceitos da Teoria Ator-Rede (TAR). Essa abordagem permitiu seguir as associações e redes formadas entre humanos e não-humanos, revelando as dinâmicas complexas subjacentes aos produtos museológicos. Além disso, o conceito de ética da ontoformatividade foi fundamental para problematizar as interações entre agentes e suas práticas no contexto das ações extensionistas. Essa perspectiva permitiu compreender como as práticas não apenas refletem, mas também moldam os arranjos sociais, culturais e materiais que compõem o museu e as relações sociais que ensejam. Os resultados indicam que essas práticas não podem ser integralmente compreendidas a partir das categorias tradicionais da museologia, notadamente inscritas por epistemologias eurocêntricas. Em vez disso, ficou evidente que elas são profundamente contingenciais, moldadas por fatores econômicos, políticos e epistemológicos específicos, como os cortes de financiamento em cultura e educação e as epistemologias próprias dos agentes extensionistas e das comunidades envolvidas. Essas práticas emergem em contextos de negociação contínua, onde a agência dos diversos actantes – incluindo objetos, espaços e discursos – desempenha um papel central. Concluí que essas práticas configuram uma museologia plural e situada, capaz de desafiar os limites impostos pelas teorias dominantes. Sendo assim, ao evidenciar a multiplicidade e a contingência que permeiam essas ações, este estudo contribui para o avanço de novas teorizações no campo museológico, propondo uma abordagem mais inclusiva, sensível e conectada às realidades do sul global.

This thesis analyzes how museological practices carried out through the university extension programs of the Universidade Federal de Pelotas (UFPel) constitute museologies that challenge, innovate, or even disregard the hegemonic models of the discipline, thereby configuring what I have termed "non-exemplary museologies." The central problem of the investigation stems from the gap I have consistently observed between the daily practices in museums and the prevailing theoretical frameworks. Thus, I posed the following question: what are the conditions of existence of these museological practices, and can they be characterized solely within the established theoretical categories? To address this question, I sought to map the sociotechnical networks that underpin the actions of the Museu de Ciências Naturais Carlos Ritter (MCNCR), linked to UFPel. The research utilized semi-structured interviews with the key informant—an agent directly involved in the museological actions within the museum—and participant observation guided by the principles of Actor-Network Theory (ANT). This approach enabled the tracing of associations and networks formed between humans and non-humans, revealing the complex dynamics underlying museological outputs. Furthermore, the concept of the ethics of ontoformative practices was pivotal in problematizing the interactions between agents and their practices in the context of extension activities. This perspective allowed for an understanding of how these practices not only reflect but also shape the social, cultural, and material arrangements that constitute the museum and the social relationships they engender. The results indicate that these practices cannot be fully understood within the traditional categories of museology, which are notably inscribed in Eurocentric epistemologies. Instead, it became evident that they are profoundly contingent, shaped by specific economic, political, and epistemological factors, such as funding cuts in culture and education and the situated epistemologies of extension agents and the communities involved. These practices emerge in contexts of continuous negotiation, where the agency of various actants—including objects, spaces, and discourses—plays a central role. I concluded that these practices configure a plural and situated museology capable of challenging the limits imposed by dominant theories. Thus, by highlighting the multiplicity and contingency that permeate these actions, this study contributes to advancing new theorization in the field of museology, proposing a more inclusive, sensitive, and contextually connected approach aligned with the realities of the global south.
