O homem da areia : uma análise sobre a esquizofrenia na obra de E.T.A. Hoffmann

Abstract

Este Trabalho de Conclusão de Curso tem como objetivo examinar os aspectos da esquizofrenia no conto O Homem da Areia, de E.T.A. Hoffmann. A obra, marcada por uma constante tensão entre o real e o fantástico, retrata o conflito psíquico vivido pelo protagonista Nathanael, cuja percepção distorcida da realidade é desencadeada por um trauma infantil. Ao longo da narrativa, observam-se manifestações compatíveis com sintomas esquizofrênicos, como alucinações e delírios, que ilustram de forma literária a vulnerabilidade da mente humana diante de experiências extremas. A análise fundamenta-se não apenas na construção textual da personagem, mas também em uma contextualização biográfica do autor, identificando influências pessoais e literárias que possam ter contribuído para a elaboração da temática da loucura. Nesse sentido, o estudo propõe uma reflexão interdisciplinar entre literatura e psicologia, destacando a relevância da obra de Hoffmann tanto para o campo literário quanto para a compreensão da saúde mental.

This final paper aims to examine the aspects of schizophrenia in the short story The Sandman by E.T.A. Hoffmann. The work, marked by a constant tension between the real and the fantastic, portrays the psychological conflict experienced by the protagonist, Nathanael, whose distorted perception of reality is triggered by a childhood trauma. Throughout the narrative, manifestations consistent with schizophrenic symptoms, such as hallucinations and delusions, are observed, which literarily illustrate the vulnerability of the human mind in the face of extreme experiences. The analysis is based not only on the textual construction of the character but also on a biographical contextualization of the author, identifying personal and literary influences that may have contributed to the development of the theme of madness. In this sense, the study proposes an interdisciplinary reflection between literature and psychology, highlighting the relevance of Hoffmann's work both in the literary field and for the understanding of mental health.

Diese Abschlussarbeit hat zum Ziel, die Aspekte der Schizophrenie in der Erzählung Der Sandmann von E.T.A. Hoffmann zu untersuchen. Das Werk, das von einer ständigen Spannung zwischen dem Realen und dem Fantastischen geprägt ist, porträtiert den psychischen Konflikt des Protagonisten Nathanael, dessen verzerrte Wahrnehmung der Realität durch ein Kindheitstrauma ausgelöst wird. Im Verlauf der Erzählung sind Manifestationen zu beobachten, die mit schizophrenen Symptomen wie Halluzinationen und Wahnvorstellungen übereinstimmen und literarisch die Verletzlichkeit des menschlichen Geistes angesichts extremer Erfahrungen veranschaulichen. Die Analyse stützt sich nicht nur auf die textuelle Konstruktion der Figur, sondern auch auf eine biografische Kontextualisierung des Autors, um persönliche und literarische Einflüsse zu identifizieren, die zur Entwicklung des Themas des Wahns beigetragen haben könnten. In diesem Sinne schlägt die Studie eine interdisziplinäre Reflexion zwischen Literatur und Psychologie vor, wobei die Bedeutung von Hoffmanns Werk sowohl für das literarische Feld als auch für das Verständnis der psychischen Gesundheit hervorgehoben wird.
