Do abismo inominável à floresta sombria : expressões do cosmicismo em H.P. Lovecraft e Cixin Liu

Abstract

A partir do conto O Chamado de Cthulhu (LOVECRAFT, 2014) e dos romances O problema de três corpos e A floresta sombria (LIU, 2016-2017), o presente trabalho tem por objetivo compor uma análise comparativa de elementos que figuram o cosmicismo e externalidade (ROMANDINI, 2014) em sua construção narrativa. Reconhecendo um lugar comum nas propostas temáticas, onde se estabelecem noções de fragilidade e obsolescência humanas diante de um cosmos vasto e hostil, pretendo primeiramente definir o conceito filosófico de cosmicismo. Através de uma síntese dos universos ficcionais e sua utilização de conceitos e alegorias científicas, busco pontuar os métodos de construção de alegorias do cosmicismo, examinando suas similaridades simbólicas. Posteriormente, evidenciando as extrapolações fantásticas e inquietantes (FREUD, 2010), pontuo como a reflexão existencialista subjacente ao horror cósmico lovecraftiano pode ser evidenciada de forma mais tangível na ficção científica de Cixin Liu. Diante disso, busco evidenciar as inerentes implicações filosóficas suscitadas pelo horror cósmico e ficção científica a partir da analogia da Floresta Sombria (LIU, 2017).

Based on the short story The Call of Cthulhu (LOVECRAFT, 2014) and the novels The Three-Body Problem and The Dark Forest (LIU, 2016-2017), this work aims to compose a comparative analysis of elements that feature cosmicism and externality (ROMANDINI, 2014) in their narrative construction. Recognizing a common ground in the thematic proposals in the texts, which establish notions of human fragility and obsolescence in the face of a vast and hostile cosmos, I first intend to define the philosophical concept of cosmicism. Through a synthesis of the fictional universes and their use of scientific concepts and allegories, I try to point out the methods of constructing the allegories of cosmicism, examining their symbolic similarities. Subsequently, highlighting the fantastic and uncanny (FREUD, 2010) extrapolations, I point out how the existentialist reflection underlying Lovecraftian cosmic horror can be evidenced in a more tangible way in Cixin Liu's science fiction. Therefore, I seek to highlight the inherent philosophical implications raised by cosmic horror and science fiction based on the analogy of the Dark Forest (LIU, 2017).
