Entre Eras e emoções : a semiótica afetiva das transições em Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour

Abstract

Este trabalho pretende analisar as transições entre as "eras" da carreira de Taylor Swift na turnê The Eras Tour, utilizando o audiovisual disponível no Disney+. A pesquisa emprega a semiótica peirceana, a teoria das materialidades de Gumbrecht e a semiótica das afecções para explorar como os elementos visuais, sonoros e performáticos ensejam mudanças de estados afetivos no espectador. A análise abrange a descrição da trajetória de Taylor Swift, a estrutura da turnê e uma análise detalhada de cada transição, mostrando como signos e afetos contribuem para a experiência imersiva do show. O primeiro capítulo introduz o tema da pesquisa, destacando sua relevância e justificativa, além de apresentar a metodologia empregada e a estrutura do trabalho, dividido em cinco capítulos. No segundo capítulo, a trajetória de Taylor Swift é contextualizada, abordando seu impacto cultural, desde suas origens no country até sua consolidação no pop. São discutidos momentos-chave de sua carreira, como mudanças de estilo musical, polêmicas com a mídia e a regravação de seus álbuns, além de explorar o conceito da The Eras Tour, a estrutura do show e a cultura de megaeventos, detalhando as eras apresentadas e os elementos que as caracterizam. O terceiro capítulo apresenta o referencial teórico utilizado na análise. A semiótica peirceana é abordada a partir de conceitos como a natureza triádica do signo, semiose e tipologia dos signos, com base na perspectiva de Lúcia Santaella. Também são discutidas a teoria das materialidades de Gumbrecht, que enfatiza experiências sensoriais e a presença física, e a semiótica das afecções, que examina a relação entre signos e emoções. No quarto capítulo, todas as nove transições entre as eras do documentário musical Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour são analisadas. Cada transição é descrita com o apoio de frames do show e interpretada com base nos referenciais teóricos, explorando elementos como cores, iluminação, figurinos, cenários e efeitos visuais desencadeiam mudanças de estados afetivos no público, intensificando a imersão na narrativa do espetáculo. Por fim, o quinto capítulo sintetiza os resultados da pesquisa, destacando a importância das transições na construção da narrativa do show. Conclui-se que esses momentos, longe de serem pausas narrativas, são elementos cruciais para a experiência estética e emocional do espetáculo. A análise evidencia como a semiótica, a teoria das materialidades e a semiótica das afecções contribuem para compreender a complexidade de eventos como a The Eras Tour.

This paper aims to analyze the transitions between the "eras" of Taylor Swift's career on The Eras Tour, using the audiovisual material available on Disney+. The research employs Peircean semiotics, Gumbrecht's theory of materialities, and the semiotics of affects to explore how visual, sound, and performative elements create changes in affective states in the viewer. The analysis includes the description of Taylor Swift's trajectory, the structure of the tour, and a detailed analysis of each transition, showing how signs and affects contribute to the immersive experience of the show. The first chapter introduces the research theme, highlighting its relevance and justification, in addition to presenting the methodology used and the structure of the work, divided into five chapters. In the second chapter, Taylor Swift's trajectory is contextualized, addressing her cultural impact, from her origins in country to her consolidation in pop. Key moments in her career are discussed, such as changes in musical style, controversies with the media and the re-recording of her albums, in addition to exploring the concept of The Eras Tour, the structure of the show and the culture of mega-events, detailing the eras presented and the elements that characterize them. The third chapter presents the theoretical framework used in the analysis. Peircean semiotics is approached from concepts such as the triadic nature of the sign, semiosis and typology of signs, based on the perspective of Lúcia Santaella. Gumbrecht's theory of materialities, which emphasizes sensory experiences and physical presence, and the semiotics of affections, which examines the relationship between signs and emotions, are also discussed. In the fourth chapter, all nine transitions between the eras of the musical documentary Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour are analyzed. Each transition is described with the support of frames from the show and interpreted based on theoretical frameworks, exploring how elements such as colors, lighting, costumes, sets and visual effects trigger changes in the audience's affective states, intensifying immersion in the show's narrative. Finally, the fifth chapter summarizes the research results, highlighting the importance of transitions in the construction of the show's narrative. It is concluded that these moments, far from being narrative pauses, are crucial elements for the aesthetic and emotional experience of the show. The analysis highlights how semiotics, the theory of materialities and the semiotics of affections contribute to understanding the complexity of events such as The Eras Tour.
