Abstract
Background: the aim of this study was to evaluate the apical sealing of MTA Angelus cements through marginal adaptation and microleakage evalua- tion. Methods: eighteen human single rooted teeth were divided into three groups, de- pending on the root-end filling material used: grey MTA, white MTA, (test groups) and Super-EBA (control group), and placed in a recipient containing dis- tilled water and subjected to hydrostatic pressure throughout setting. Leakage tests with radioisotope 32-P and au- toradiography were used; in addition, marginal gaps between retrofilling ma- terials and surrounding dentin were as- sessed by SEM analysis. Comparisons among groups were con- ducted with analysis of variance (ANOVA) followed by Duncan´s post hoc test. Results: SEM showed test groups with better marginal adaptation and more regular surface aspect, while radio-la- beled isotope penetration showed no difference between groups. Statistical analysis confirmed significant differ- ences in results between test groups and control regarding marginal adaptation test. Conclusion: MTA-Angelus formula- tions have better marginal adaptation than Super-EBA, showing statistically significant differences. Leakage test car- ried out in this study showed no difference among the materials tested; corre- lation between the two methodologies was not observed. ...
