Linguagem de chão : movências e atravessamentos no semiárido baiano

Abstract

A tese de Doutorado em Artes Visuais com ênfase em Poéticas Visuais, intitulada Linguagem de chão: movências e atravessamentos no semiárido baiano, buscou entrelaçar uma prática artística com uma reflexão teórica onde matéria e deslocamento são elementos disparadores. Através de caminhadas realizadas no semiárido baiano se desenvolveu trabalhos em múltiplas formas e meios, como estratégia de ressignificação do território atravessado, elaborando assim, o conceito linguagem de chão. Considerou-se o lugar percorrido a partir dos encontros que se deram ao longo da Caminhada dos Umbuzeiros: pelas materialidades, narrativas e relatos. Partiu-se da premissa que ao longo desse caminhar são identificadas marcas que constituem as narrativas hegemônicas desse lugar, identificadas no livro Os sertões de Euclides da Cunha, nas fotografias de Flávio de Barros, e nos documentos antigos sobre a remoção do meteorito de Bendegó. Frente a isso, trabalhou-se com o conceito de história em Walter Benjamin e de Re/escritura em Priscilla Arantes, numa tentativa de reescrever essas narrativas sobrepondo arquivo, materialidade e experiência. A noção de repertório e de conhecimento incorporado da antropóloga Diana Taylor foi central para essa pesquisa, atendendo à importância do corpo caminhante. Dentre os artistas estudados, Miguel Fernandes de Castro e Michelle Stuart, operam por meio de uma linguagem de chão, considerando a materialidade, os nomes e as histórias dos lugares que investigam. Nesse caminhar, entre formas, matérias, relatos e arquivos de um chão muito específico, ressoa a ideia do antropólogo Tim Ingold de trazer as coisas de volta a vida.

The doctoral thesis in Visual Arts with an emphasis on Visual Poetics, entitled Language of the ground: movements and crossings through the semi-arid region of Bahia, sought to intertwine an artistic practice with a theoretical reflection where matter and displacement are triggering elements. Through walks carried out in the semi-arid region of Bahia, works were developed in multiple ways and means, as a strategy to re-signify the territory crossed, thus elaborating the concept of ground language. The place covered was considered from the meetings that took place along the Caminhada dos Umbuzeiros: through materialities, narratives and reports. It was based on the premise that along this journey, marks that constitute the hegemonic narratives of this place are identified, identified in the book Os sertões by Euclides da Cunha, in photographs by Flávio de Barros, and in old documents about the removal of the Bendegó meteorite. Faced with this, I worked with the concept of history in Walter Benjamin and of Re/writing in Priscilla Arantes, in an attempt to rewrite these narratives overlapping archive, materiality and experience. Anthropologist Diana Taylor’s notion of repertoire and embodied knowledge was central to this research, given the importance of the walking body. Among the studied artists, Miguel Fernandes de Castro and Michelle Stuart, operate through a ground language, considering the materiality, names and histories of the places they investigate. In this walk, between shapes, subjects, reports and archives from a very specific ground, anthropologist Tim Ingold’s idea of bringing things back to life resounds.
