A estrutura resistente nas obras de Mario Roberto Álvarez

Abstract

Ao longo da história, a produção da arquitetura sofreu, de forma natural, inúmeras e profundas transformações, relacionadas aos métodos construtivos, às ordens e aos estilos; porém, em nenhum momento, houve tamanho impacto ou consequências como as proporcionadas pela utilização da "ossatura independente", diretamente atrelada às motivações do movimento moderno. A configuração do sistema estrutural por meio da substituição dos muros portantes por elementos específicos proporcionou uma gama de opções inexploradas até então, possibilitando a substituição das vedações pelos mais diferentes tipos de materiais, de acordo com as motivações do projetista. Em meio a este contexto, encontra-se Mario Roberto Álvarez, arquiteto argentino, responsável por uma vasta produção arquitetônica, autor de mais de duzentos projetos, de variados temas a escalas. Desse modo, a presente pesquisa analisa uma parcela relevante das obras realizadas pelo arquiteto na cidade de Buenos Aires, num recorte temporal que vai de 1954 até 1995. O foco principal estende-se a quatro modelos de sistema estrutural: núcleo periférico e pilares em malha; núcleo periférico e apoios periféricos; núcleo central e apoios periféricos; núcleo central e pilares em malha. Esses modelos foram replicados de diferentes maneiras ao longo dos anos. A análise busca reforçar a importância da solução estrutural como elemento integrante e influente dentro do projeto de arquitetura, capaz de influenciar fortemente os demais sistemas componentes da edificação. Ainda, objetiva-se demonstrar a capacidade evolutiva de Álvarez, analisando as alterações que esses quatro modelos estruturais sofreram ao londo dos anos, frente aos diferentes condicionantes do projeto, ressaltando a importância do processo de avaliação e a flexibilização das estratégias arquitetônicas.

Throughout history, architectural works have naturally undergone numerous and profound changes related to construction methods, orders and styles; however, at no time in history was there such an impact or consequences as those provided by the use of "independent bone structures", which are directly linked to the motivations of the Modern movement. The substitution of supporting walls for specific elements provided a wide range of possibilities that had not been explored until then, allowing the designers to replace the sealings with different types os materials, according to their motivations. In the midst of this content. there is Mario Roberto Álvarez, an Argentinian architect responsible for a vast architectural production, author of more than two hundred projects of varied themes and scales. Thus, this research analyzes a relevant portion of the works carried out by him in the city of Buenos Aires, in a time frame that goes from 1954 to 1995. The main focus extends to four structural system models, which have been replicated in different ways over the years: peripheral core with meshed pillers; peripheral core with peripheral supports, central core with peripheral supports, and central core with meshed pillars. Therefore, this analysis seeks to reinforce the importance of the structural solution as an integral and influential element within the architectural design, capable of strongly influencing the other component systems of the building. Furthermore, it is intended to demonstrate Álvarez's evolutionary capacity, analyzing the changes that theses four structural models have undergone over the years, given different design constraints, emphasizing the importance of the evaluation process and the flexibility of architectural strategies.
