Infant mortality is an essential indicator for health planning, which presents socioeconomic, environmental, nutritional and access to health for both the child and the mother. There is a great movement of actions to reduce this indicator, since it is part of the priorities set in the objectives of sustainable development, which aims, by 2030, to eliminate the preventable deaths of newborns and children under five years, in addition to reducing neonatal mortality to rates of less than 12 deaths per 1,000 live births, which includes Brazil. In this sense, this study aimed to present, through the analysis of the indicators of vaccination and prenatal coverage in relation to the rates of infant morbidity and mortality from preventable causes, the social impact generated by the immunization actions and assistance to the women in the gestation phase, the importance of prevention by the population and the awareness of health managers in the actions of women's and children's health policies, thus seeking to reduce preventable childhood deaths. Weighting the period from 2008 to 2016, in the city of Santa Maria, in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, in the state regional Verdes Campos, as well as in the southern region of the country (states of Paraná, Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul) and in the Brazil, through the search of data available in the DataSus database of indicators of infant morbidity and mortality, vaccination and prenatal coverage, and processing them through Excel 2016 worksheets. Carrying out the calculation of the rates of these indicators and assembly of charts (Hib) and Pentavalent (DTP + HB + Hib) vaccines, which have an impact on the reduction of hospital admissions caused by preventable diseases due to pneumonia and influenza and, consequently, child deaths. It was understood that during the evaluated period there were constant increases in prenatal and vaccination coverage rates, reduction of hospital morbidity rates and, consequently, reduction in infant mortality rates due to preventable causes due to the attention paid to the pregnant woman and the actions of immunization. To that end, it is concluded that it is of fundamental importance to evaluate health indicators by public health managers in order to make investments in professionals and in basic health policies that seek to guide the population. ...
