Claudio Goulart : o arquivo como memória

Abstract

Esta pesquisa investiga questões referentes a arquivos e à memória na arte contemporânea, através da produção do artista brasileiro Claudio Goulart (Porto Alegre, 1954 – Amsterdã, 2005). O artista, que desenvolveu sua carreira em Amsterdã, na Holanda, desde a segunda metade dos anos 1970, e participou de exposições e de projetos em vários países, é pouco conhecido no cenário artístico brasileiro, mesmo possuindo uma significativa e interessante produção, com projeção internacional. A obra de Goulart nunca recebeu um estudo aprofundado, tendo se optado como principal fonte de pesquisa, o arquivo que o próprio artista reuniu em vida, bem como os acervos de instituições que possuem documentos sobre suas produções. A presente investigação problematiza a omissão sobre sua atuação pela memória brasileira e sobre as causas dessa ausência entre as linhas escritas sobre a arte desse país, em especial, do Rio Grande do Sul.

This research investigates issues related to archives and memory in contemporary art, through the production of Brazilian artist Claudio Goulart (Porto Alegre, 1954 - Amsterdam, 2005). The artist, who developed his career in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, since the second half of the 1970s, and participated in exhibitions and projects in several countries, is little known in the Brazilian art scene, even having a significant and interesting production, with international projection. Goulart’s work has never received an in-depth study, having chosen as the main source of research the archive that himself gathered in life, as well as the collections of art institutions that possess documentation about his production. The present investigation problematizes the omission on his achievements about Brazilian memory and pursues the causes of this absence of writing production between art critics and scholars in artistic Brazilian field, in particular, State of Rio Grande do Sul.
