O setor varejista brasileiro tornou-se muito competitivo, especialmente com a entrada de grandes redes estrangeiras no mercado. Neste contexto, técnicas de gestão da produção têm sido utilizadas para garantir a qualidade da operação e evitar perdas com estoque, logística e compras. Diante disso, prever a demanda tornou-se essencial na gestão das organizações, servindo como base para as principais decisões estratégicas. A acurácia desta estimativa interfere diretamente nos resultados da empresa, uma vez que a empresa se baseia neste valor para estabelecer metas de venda. O presente artigo propõe um método de previsão de demanda ilustrado em um estudo de caso realizado em uma grande empresa varejista do Brasil. Tal estudo foi realizado utilizando o método quantitativo de suavização exponencial. Em sua aplicação, o método proposto reduziu o erro de estimativa em 50,71% em relação a previsão atualmente utilizada, representando cerca de vinte milhões de reais. A partir da revisão bibliográfica e dos resultados obtidos, recomenda-se que a empresa reveja o modelo de previsão de demanda, identificando oportunidades para estudos futuros. ...
