Este trabalho tem como objetivo demonstrar a relevância do direito fundamental da informação do consumidor no âmbito da segurança alimentar. Nesse cerne, são discutidos desde os direitos básicos do consumidor, concedidos pelo ordenamento pátrio, até as normas nacionais e internacionais incidentes no setor alimentício, incluindo o Codex Alimentarius como instruções normativas a serem seguidas por todos os países signatários. Este trabalho tem como objetivo demonstrar a relevância do direito fundamental da informação do consumidor no âmbito da segurança alimentar. Nesse cerne, são discutidos desde os direitos básicos do consumidor, concedidos pelo ordenamento pátrio, até as normas nacionais e internacionais incidentes no setor alimentício, incluindo o Codex Alimentarius como instruções normativas a serem seguidas por todos os países signatários. Analisa-se os Princípios da Vulnerabilidade, da Boa-fé, da Transparência e da Precaução e sua interligação com o direito à informação adequada do consumidor. Consta uma breve discussão sobre os alimentos transgênicos e suas implicações na saúde e segurança dos consumidores. Dessa forma, constata-se a relevância da informação adequada que deve chegar ao consumidor para que este tenha ciência da realidade a qual está inserido e tenha liberdade de escolha sobre qual alimento irá ingerir, sabendo dos riscos que está correndo. The Principles of Vulnerability, Good Faith, Transparency, and Precaution are analysed, along with their interconnections with the consumer’s right to be adequately informed. The text also briefly discusses genetically modified foods and their impact on the health and safety of consumers. Thus, the text observes the relevance of providing adequate information for consumers to become aware of the reality of which they are part, having the freedom to choose what foods they ingest and knowing the risks they might be facing. Finally, there is a discussion about labelling and traceability as ways to ensure consumer safeguards. ...
