Este artigo tem como objetivo testar a Cockroach Theory no mercado de ações brasileiro, ou seja, verificar se as empresas, após divulgarem um resultado abaixo das expectativas dos analistas, irão apresentar ao menos mais um resultado aquém do consenso no trimestre seguinte. Para tal, foram analisados os últimos dezessete resultados trimestrais de um grupo de empresas pertencentes ao Ibovespa e realizou-se o teste t de Student com a amostra recolhida. Através dos dados disponíveis, não foi possível provar estatisticamente que o resultado trimestral abaixo das expectativas é seguido de outro resultado abaixo do consenso de mercado, provavelmente, pelo fato dos analistas que monitoram as empresas estarem bem informados sobre as mesmas, ajustando suas estimativas para os trimestres seguintes logo após a divulgação do resultado. ...

This paper aims to test the Cockroach Theory in the Brazilian stock market, ie, to check whether companies after disclosing earnings below analysts' expectations, will present at least another quarter short of consensus. To this end, the last seventeen quarterly results of a group of companies from Ibovespa were analyzed and the Student t test was realized with the collected sample. From the available data, it was not possible to prove statistically that the quarterly results below expectations are followed by another result below the market consensus, probably because analysts who cover the companies are well informed about the same and they adjust their estimates for following quarters right after the earnings release. ...
