Introdução: Quando nos referimos ao ambiente hospitalar, não podemos deixar de citar a Unidade de Terapia Intensiva (UTI), esta é de fato a área mais complexa do referido ambiente, e de certa forma pode-se dizer que é um espaço decisivo ao paciente. Objetivo: descrever indicadores de utilização de uma Unidade de Terapia Intensiva Adulto em um hospital de grande porte do noroeste do Rio Grande do Sul (RS), biênio 2012-2013. Método: Foram consolidados os dados referentes à taxa de ocupação, média de permanência, número de pacientes internados, média de paciente/dia e taxa de mortalidade/ano, empregando sistema informatizado do hospital. Resultados: A média da taxa de ocupação foi de 84,9% e 86,7%; taxa de permanência de 3,6 e 3,4 dias e uma mortalidade anual de 21,3% e 20,6%, em 2012 e 2013, respectivamente. A taxa de ocupação de leitos manteve-se acima de 75%. A média de permanência/dia e a taxa de mortalidade foram inferiores a outros estudos semelhantes.
