Este trabalho estuda formas de otimizar a coleta dos resíduos industriais gerados pelas áreas da usina e minas situadas no complexo de minério de ferro de Carajás – PA. Este trabalho estuda formas de otimizar a coleta dos resíduos industriais gerados pelas áreas da usina e minas situadas no complexo de minério de ferro de Carajás – PA. Para chegar ao objetivo proposto são aplicadas em conjunto tecnologias dos Sistemas de Informações Geográficas (SIG) e estudos estatísticos. O Sistema de Informações Geográficas permite realizar, através da utilização do software Arcview 9.0 e de imagens de satélites Ikonos, coleta de dados de campo, armazenamento dos dados relacionados à gestão da coleta, análise e integração geográfica da vetorização das rotas. Através dos estudos estatísticos planilhas serão alimentadas e analisadas quantitativamente e qualitativamente resultando assim numa melhor compreensão e tratamento das variáveis que influenciam a eficácia da coleta e o transporte dos resíduos gerados nas áreas. Com a utilização das ferramentas dos Sistemas de Informação Geográfica foram obtidas as melhores rotas de coleta para cada um dos veículos coletores, com as análises estatísticas foi possível conhecer e avaliar as principais dificuldades inerentes ao processo de coleta dos resíduos bem como identificar as praças que necessitavam de adequações. O estudo fomentou a inclusão de aproximadamente 75 caçambas/mês na operação de coleta e ao mesmo tempo diminuiu os custos do contrato de operação em R$ 22.417,66/mês. ...
