O conto dos três irmãos : da magia à morfologia

Abstract

O objetivo deste trabalho é examinar os componentes básicos no enredo de “O Conto dos Três Irmãos”, de J.K. Rowling, tendo em vista os pressupostos desenvolvidos por Vladimir Propp em seu famoso estudo intitulado Morfologia do Conto Maravilhoso. Para tanto, serão apresentadas possíveis apropriações das funções das personagens e suas esferas de ação definidas no trabalho do teórico russo, a fim de elaborar uma síntese das sequências narrativas do conto em questão. Inicialmente, serão observadas as personagens principais do conto, os três irmãos, e ressaltados os elementos simbólicos da trama. Em seguida, será apresentada a aplicação do modelo proppiano de conto de magia, o conto de fadas propriamente dito. “O Conto dos Três Irmãos” integra o livro Os Contos de Beedle, o Bardo e emerge na saga do herói adolescente, Harry Potter, em seu sétimo volume, Harry Potter e as Relíquias da Morte. A coletânea de histórias do bardo Beedle funciona, no mundo bruxo, como Os Contos de Mamãe Gansa, de Charles Perrault, que conhecemos. O livro traz contos que conservam a estrutura tradicional dos contos de fadas, recorrente no folclore de comunidades de diferentes espaços geográficos. Ao realizar uma leitura pelo viés estruturalista, guiada pelos fundamentos de Propp, serão verificadas marcas do gênero conto de fadas na escrita de Rowling. Para esta tarefa, portanto, será utilizada uma tabela contendo as funções das personagens e suas variantes organizadas sistematicamente. Outrossim, caberá salientar a importância do contato das crianças - bruxas ou trouxas - com esse gênero literário em um mundo com ou sem magia.

This study´s objective is to examine the basic components in the plot of “The Tale of the Three Brothers”, by J.K. Rowling, in view of Vladimir Propp’s assumptions in his famous work Morphology of the Folktale. For that purpose, possibilities for the appropriation of the characters’ functions and spheres of actions will be presented, in order to elaborate a synthesis of the narrative sequence, according to the studies of the Russian theorist. Initially, a brief analysis of the main characters in the tale, the three brothers, will be provided. Also, the symbolic elements in the plot will be highlighted. Subsequently, Propp’s model for the study of the fairy tale will be applied to the tale in question. “The Tale of the Three Brothers” is featured in The Tales of Beedle, the Bard and emerges in the Harry Potter saga, from its seventh book, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. The Bard’s collection of stories is to the wizard world as are The Tales of Mother Goose, by Charles Perrault, for us. Rowling’s tales reproduce the traditional structure of the fairy tales present in the folklore of communities from different geographical origins. Therefore, this work consists of an exercise of application of Propp´s table and theory into Rowling´s tale. For this task, a table containing all the thirty-one characters’ functions and its variants – systematically organized – was produced. Furthermore, it is important to underline the great relevance of this literary genre in relation to children’s intellectual development, in a world either with or without magic.
