Abstract in Portuguese (Brasil)
Abstract
Based on the Communicative Theory of Terminology, this study identifies, describes and analyzes, from a linguistic perspective, the formation of eventive specialized phraseological units (eventive SPU; BEVILACQUA, 2004) in the field of Strength Training (ST) – a specialty of Physical Education. For this purpose, a corpus of 21 scientific articles on ST in Portuguese was explored using the software AntConc (ANTHONY, 2011). Among the findings of the study, we highlight the denominative (quasi-synonymy) and conceptual (polysemy) variation in the extracted terminological and phraseological units; as well as the predominance of nominalizations, compared to verbs and participles in the eventive SPU. The procedures and criteria adopted, as well as the conclusions reached will base the decision making regarding the inclusion of such phraseologies in a prototype bilingual (Portuguese-English) glossary designed to translators – a product of our Master’s research. ...
