Este trabalho visa avaliar a técnica de estabilização de solos com emulsão asfáltica para emprego em camadas de pavimentos de vias de baixo volume de tráfego. A utilização de solos existentes no local da obra, porém sem a capacidade estrutural necessária, é de extrema importância, visto que é uma alternativa econômica que preserva o meio ambiente e os recursos naturais. O uso de materiais locais elimina as atividades de transporte, extração e descarte. Além disso, a técnica proposta dispensa o aquecimento, uma vez que é realizada em temperatura ambiente. Para verificar a viabilidade do uso do solo-emulsão, no emprego em bases de pavimentos asfálticos, foram realizados ensaios laboratoriais que avaliam suas propriedades mecânicas, sendo eles: módulo de resiliência, resistência à compressão simples e resistência à tração por compressão diametral. Na primeira etapa dos ensaios, foram confeccionados diversos corpos-de-prova de dois tipos de solo distintos (um fino e outro granular) variando percentual de água e de emulsão. Aquelas composições que apresentaram melhores resultados no ensaio de resistência à tração foram selecionadas. Posteriormente, essas composições foram submetidas ao ensaio de resistência à compressão simples e, a partir desses resultados, foram definidos os teores de projeto. O módulo de resiliência não compôs a parte de dosagem da mistura solo-emulsão, mas serviu para avaliar as propriedades das misturas mais eficientes. Ao final da pesquisa, observou-se que a adição de emulsão resulta em incremento de resistência à compressão em ambos os solos (16,2% no solo fino e 30,0% no solo granular), incremento de 442,9% de resistência à tração no solo fino e origina resistência à tração no solo granular; ou seja, houve melhoramento das propriedades mecânicas dos materiais. Entretanto, considerando uma estrutura típica de pavimento de via de baixo volume de tráfego, o solo-emulsão granular apresenta excesso de tensões do topo do subleito, apontando a necessidade de se verificar o uso de outras técnicas associadas que permitam controlar este mecanismo. ...
