O presente trabalho visa, em sua primeira parte, buscar e nomear os principais aspectos de comunidades de moradias irregulares, tanto os sociais quanto os físicos, mostrando o porquê de serem consideradas áreas de risco, classificar os principais problemas geotécnicos de estabilidade de taludes e seus condicionantes e listar as etapas necessárias para uma investigação geotécnica bem sucedida. O presente trabalho visa, em sua primeira parte, buscar e nomear os principais aspectos de comunidades de moradias irregulares, tanto os sociais quanto os físicos, mostrando o porquê de serem consideradas áreas de risco, classificar os principais problemas geotécnicos de estabilidade de taludes e seus condicionantes e listar as etapas necessárias para uma investigação geotécnica bem sucedida. Na segunda parte deste trabalho é feita uma avaliação geotécnica da Vila Pedreira, localizada no bairro Cristal de Porto Alegre. Montando-se um roteiro para a investigação geotécnica efetuada no local, dividido em estudos iniciais e estudos de campo, nomearam-se os perigos geotécnicos a que esta área está sujeita, através de análises qualitativas do local, baseando-se em estudos preliminares quanto a provável natureza do solo ou rocha desta área. Durante os estudos iniciais foi previsto a existência de uma grande quantidade de descontinuidades nas rochas, devido à proximidade da comunidade a uma falha geológica, o que se comprovou nos estudos de campo. Após análise dos resultados dos estudos concluiu-se que o principal perigo geotécnico da Vila Pedreira seria queda de blocos rochosos. ...
