O cinema como manifestação e movimento cultural : a relação entre a sétima arte e o município de Novo Hamburgo/RS

Abstract

Este trabalho investiga a trajetória da cultura e história cinematográfica no município de Novo Hamburgo, no Rio Grande do Sul, desde as primeiras salas de cinema de rua e o seu encerramento no final do século XX, até o reconhecimento atual da cidade como Polo Audiovisual. A pesquisa parte da compreensão do cinema como manifestação cultural, abordando tanto a exibição quanto a produção cinematográfica no contexto local. Com base em metodologia qualitativa, foram utilizadas fontes bibliográficas, documentais, digitais, histórico-culturais e uma entrevista semiestruturada com uma figura importante do cenário cultural hamburguense. O estudo percorre aspectos históricos do cinema na cidade, como o surgimento das primeiras salas de exibição, sua importância como espaço de sociabilidade e os impactos de seu desaparecimento. Também analisa a presença da memória afetiva do cinema nas redes sociais e investiga as ações contemporâneas de formação e produção audiovisual. A análise revela como o cinema, mesmo com a extinção dos espaços tradicionais, continua presente no imaginário coletivo e nas práticas culturais locais, evidenciando sua transformação e permanência como elemento identitário da cidade. O trabalho contribui para a documentação da história cultural de Novo Hamburgo e para a valorização das memórias sociais associadas à sétima arte.

This study investigates the trajectory of cinema culture and history in the city of Novo Hamburgo, located in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. It traces the evolution from the early street cinemas and their closure at the end of the 20th century to the city's current recognition as an Audiovisual Hub. The research is grounded in an understanding of cinema as a cultural manifestation, addressing both film exhibition and production within the local context. Using a qualitative methodology, the study draws on bibliographic, documentary, digital, and historical-cultural sources, as well as a semi-structured interview with a key figure in Novo Hamburgo's cultural scene. The study explores the historical aspects of cinema in the city, including the emergence of the first screening venues, their role as spaces for social interaction, and the impact of their disappearance. It also examines how the emotional memory of cinema is present on social media and investigates contemporary initiatives in audiovisual training and production. The analysis reveals how cinema, despite the closure of traditional venues, remains alive in the collective imagination and in local cultural practices, highlighting its transformation and ongoing presence as a defining element of the city’s identity. This work contributes to the documentation of Novo Hamburgo's cultural history and to the appreciation of the social memories associated with the seventh art.
