Revoluções armadas : americanos e latinos em O senhor embaixador

Abstract

A partir de uma perspectiva histórica das revoluções armadas ocorridas no século XX, analisa-se o romance O Senhor Embaixador, de Erico Verissimo, apresentando-se as peripécias deduas nações, uma hegemônica, e outra subalterna, centradas na conquista territorial e simbólica, tanto em termos econômicos quanto políticos, tendo em mira os resultados delas advindos. Os interesses geopolíticos entre os Estados Unidos e a fictícia República do Sacramento são interpretados à luz das teorias dasRelações Internacionais, presentes em Jackson e Sorensen (2007). Quer-se demonstrar que, metaforicamente, o romance se reporta ao Brasil dos anos 60-70, visando estudar as raízes e consequências dos movimentos revolucionários nacionais que então se gestavam em oposição ao regime instituído pelos militares.

From a historical perspective of the armed revolutions that occurred in the 20th century, the novel His Excellency The Ambassador, by Erico Verissimo, is here analyzed, presenting the adventures of two nations, one hegemonic and the other subordinate, focused on territorial and symbolic conquest, both in economic and political terms, with an eye on the derived results. The geopolitical interests between the United States and the fictional Republic of Sacramento are interpreted in light of the theories of International Relations, present in Jackson and Sorensen (2007). The aim is to demonstrate that, metaphorically, the novel refers to Brazil in the 1960s and 1970s, aiming to studythe roots and consequences of the national revolutionary movements that were then developing in opposition to the regime instituted by the military.
