O sonho de fazer teatro musical em Porto Alegre : reflexões de um jovem diretor a partir da montagem de tick, tick... BOOM!

Abstract

O presente trabalho reflete sobre contexto, dinâmicas e processos do teatro musical, a partir da experiência de montagem do texto tick, tick... BOOM!, encenado pelo autor como Estágio de Montagem do Curso de Teatro do Departamento de Arte Dramática da Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul, em 2024. Busca-se trazer definições possíveis do termo teatro musical, além de um breve histórico do gênero na Broadway de Nova Iorque e no Brasil, principalmente no eixo Rio-São Paulo, considerando questões de produção e as dificuldades para montagens do gênero em Porto Alegre. Para a reflexão, dialoga com estudos de Mundim (2021), Veneziano (2012), e com o conceito de teatro menor proposto por Silva (2017). O trabalho compara o processo do Estágio de Montagem e os desafios do jovem artista de teatro portoalegrense com os temas tratados pelo texto encenado e com o contexto do autor da obra, Jonathan Larson. Os processos de produção e encenação do espetáculo abordado sugerem meios possíveis para a montagem de teatro musical em Porto Alegre em um contexto de poucos recursos.

This paper reflects on the context, dynamics, and processes of musical theater, based on the experience of staging the show tick, tick... BOOM!, directed by the author as a Production Internship for the Theater Course of the Department of Dramatic Art of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul, in 2024. It seeks to provide possible definitions of the term musical theater, in addition to a brief history of the genre on New York’s Broadway and in Brazil, mainly in the Rio-São Paulo region, considering production issues and the difficulties of staging the genre in Porto Alegre. For reflection, it dialogues with studies by Mundim (2021), Veneziano (2012), and with the concept of minor theater proposed by Silva (2017). The paper compares the Production Internship process and the challenges of the young theater artist from Porto Alegre with the themes addressed by the staged show and with the context of the play’s author, Jonathan Larson. The production and staging processes of the show in question suggest possible means for staging musical theater in Porto Alegre in a context of few resources.
