Hip Hop Freestyle Dance, Breaking e sexismo : um estudo com mulheres que batalham

Abstract

A partir de uma perspectiva feminina sobre os eventos de batalhas de dança é visível a ausência das mulheres nesses ambientes. Este trabalho visa apresentar o apagamento histórico das mulheres na Cultura Hip Hop, através de entrevistas semiestruturadas realizadas em cinco eventos nos estados do Rio Grande do Sul e Santa Catarina com participantes que se identificavam com o gênero feminino ou nãobinário. O estudo evidencia uma disparidade significativa entre o número de homens e mulheres nos espaços de dança, destacando relatos que atribuem essa desigualdade ao sexismo presente desde as origens dessa manifestação cultural. A pesquisa apresenta a escassez da presença feminina nesses espaços e do que as mulheres precisam abrir mão para participar ativamente dos ambientes de workshops, cyphers e batalhas de dança. Esta pesquisa encontra sua justificativa na minha vivência nesses eventos, onde acumulei experiências significativas que despertaram meu interesse acadêmico nesse contexto. Este estudo utilizou uma metodologia que envolve técnicas de obtençãode dados tanto quantitativos quanto qualitativos, unindo o componente participativo com a investigação performativa, sustentando tópicos como a emancipação feminina e o percurso histórico da Cultura Hip Hop. Foram realizadas vinte e nove entrevistas com perguntas semiestruturadas direcionadas ao público feminino praticante de Hip Hop Freestyle Dance e Breaking a partir da seleção de cinco eventos, realizados nos estados do Rio Grande do Sul e Santa Catarina, que possuíam batalhas de dança com inscrições de até vinte e cinco reais, ocorridos entre meados de novembro do ano de 2023 e fevereiro de 2024. De acordo com as entrevistas realizadas todas as pessoas que fizeram parte da pesquisa experienciaram, ou observaram, situações sexistas, mesmo aquelas que possuem aproximadamente dois anos de vivências dentro da Cultura Hip Hop. Entre vinte e nove mulheres entrevistadas, vinte e sete afirmaram que tiveram dificuldade em permanecer em ambientes de batalhas de dança. A cada vinte e nove mulheres entrevistadas, vinte e oito afirmam que já viram o sexismo prevalecer na hora do resultado de uma batalha e vinte e quatro afirmam que já se sentiram assedias sexualmente ou moralmente enquanto dançavam. Entretanto, a criação de redes de apoio femininas, envolta da crescente luta feminista e ainda atrelado a artistas, que se posicionaram desde os primórdios da Cultura Hip Hop, tem demonstrado que a mudança no âmago de uma manifestação majoritariamente patriarcal é possível. From a female perspective on dance battle events, the absence of women in these environments is visible. This work aims to present the historical erasure of women in Hip Hop Culture, through semi-structured interviews carried out at five events in the states of Rio Grande do Sul and Santa Catarina with participants who identified with the female or non-binary gender. The study shows a significant disparity between the number of men and women in dance spaces, highlighting reports that attribute this inequality to the sexism present since the origins of this cultural manifestation. The research presents the scarcity of female presence in these spaces and what women have to give up in order to actively participate in workshops, cyphers and dance battles. This research finds its justification in my experience of these events, where I have accumulated significant experiences that have sparked my academic interest in this context. This study used a methodology that involves techniques for obtaining both quantitative and qualitative data, combining the participatory component with performative research, supporting topics such as female emancipation and the historical path of Hip Hop Culture. Twenty-nine interviews were conducted with semistructured questions aimed at female Hip Hop Freestyle Dance and Breaking practitioners, based on a selection of five events, held in the states of Rio Grande do Sul and Santa Catarina, which had dance battles with entry fees of up to twenty-five reais, which took place between mid-November 2023 and February 2024. According to the interviews conducted, all the people who took part in the research had experienced or observed sexist situations, even those who had been involved in Hip Hop culture for around two years. Of the twenty-nine women interviewed, twenty-seven said that they had found it difficult to stay in dance battle environments. Of the twentynine women interviewed, twenty-eight said that they had seen sexism prevail when it came to the outcome of a battle and twenty-four say they have felt sexually or morally harassed while dancing. However, the creation of female support networks, wrapped up in the growing feminist struggle and still linked to artists who have taken a stand since the beginnings of Hip Hop Culture, has shown that change at the heart of a mostly patriarchal manifestation is possible.
