Every record tells a story : o rock’n’roll nas capas de disco de Marco Pilar

Abstract

Este trabalho apresenta um estudo de caso do artista Marco Pilar com o objetivo de resgatar a memória gráfica fonográfica do rock’n’roll porto-alegrense dos anos 1975 a 1986. O estudo é feito através da análise das capas de discos Estação Elétrica (1976), Totalmente Rock (1984) e Garotos da Rua (1986), das bandas Bixo da Seda, Taranatiriça e Garotos da Rua, respectivamente. Em uma abordagem tríplice, o trabalho visa investigar os seguintes objetivos específicos: analisar a relação social da imagética das capas dos discos e estabelecer uma relação com os grupos sociais a que estão inseridos; investigar qual é a produção de sentido nestas capas de discos; e abordar e relacionar as referências utilizadas para a criação destas capas de discos e sua relação com uma imagética do rock’n’roll em Porto Alegre. A pesquisa utiliza abordagens teóricas como a cultura visual de James Elkins, a teoria das tribos urbanas de Michel Maffesoli e o conceito de cenas musicais de Will Straw, para explorar como as capas refletem e influenciam a identidade cultural de Porto Alegre. A metodologia inclui revisão bibliográfica e entrevistas com artistas e personagens-chave da cena roqueira, como músicos das bandas estudadas e figuras culturais locais. Com isto, a pesquisa tem o intuito de registrar e valorizar o trabalho visual de Marco Pilar, desvendando os aspectos simbólicos, afetivos e culturais de suas criações, realizando uma história do rock porto-alegrense através destas imagens.

This work presents a case study of the artist Marco Pilar with the aim of recovering the phonographic graphic memory of rock'n'roll in Porto Alegre from 1975 to 1986. The study is carried out through the analysis of the album covers Estação Elétrica (1976 ), Totalmente Rock (1984) and Garotos da Rua (1986), from the bands Bixo da Seda, Taranatiriça and Garotos da Rua, respectively. In a triple approach, the work aims to investigate the following specific objectives: analyze the social relationship of the imagery of album covers and establish a relationship with the social groups that are part of it; investigate what is the production of meaning in these album covers; and address and relate the references used to create these album covers and their relationship with rock’n’roll imagery in Porto Alegre. The research uses theoretical approaches such as James Elkins' visual culture, Michel Maffesoli's theory of urban tribes and Will Straw's concept of musical scenes, to explore how these album covers reflect and influence Porto Alegre's cultural identity. The methodology includes a bibliographic review and interviews with artists and key characters from the rock scene, such as musicians from the bands studied and local cultural figures. With this, the research aims to record and value Marco Pilar's visual work, unveiling the symbolic, affective and cultural aspects of his creations, creating a history of Porto Alegre rock through these images.
