Tradução audiovisual e o direito à cultura : o caso da comunidade surda

Abstract

Este artigo possui como objetivo discutir a tradução e interpretação da língua de sinais em meios audiovisuais como direito social e linguístico da comunidade surda. Para tanto, analisa-se como o tema aparece em duas esferas: (i) na legislativa, a partir da análise dos documentos no contexto brasileiro que determinam a inserção das “janelas de Libras” em algumas produções audiovisuais; e (ii) na acadêmico-científica, verificando a escassez de pesquisas e a imprecisão terminológico-conceitual no campo da Tradução Audiovisual (TAV) e da Tradução Audiovisual Acessível (TAVa). A análise mostraque os Estudos em TAV não conseguiram acompanhar a velocidade da ampliação dos direitos sociais das comunidades surdas e nem a presença de sua língua nos diferentes contextos sociais. Mostra, também, a necessidade de olhar para a tradução de língua de sinais como ampliação das possibilidades de consumo da cultura audiovisual no Brasil. Com base nas análises, fizemos uma proposta de mudança de termos – de janela de Libraspara tradução audiovisual da língua de sinais (TALS) – esperando, com isso, dar início ao debate sobre a importância dessa modalidade tradutória para a real inclusão da comunidade surda no contexto cultural brasileiro.

This article aims to discuss Sign Language translation and interpretation in audiovisual media as a social and linguistic right of the Deaf Community. In order to do so, it is analyzed how the issue appears in two spheres: (i) in the legislative, from the analysis of the Brazilian documents that determine the insertion of the "In vision Sign Language Translation and Interpretation" in only some audiovisual productions; and (ii) in the academic-scientific, verifying the scarceness of research and the conceptual-terminological imprecision in the fields of Audiovisual Translation (AVT) and Accessible Audiovisual Translation. The analysis shows that the studies in AVT have not been able to follow the speed of the expansion of the social rights of deaf communities nor the presence of their language in different social contexts. It also shows the need to approach Sign Language translation as an increase in the consumption of audiovisual culture in Brazil. On the basis of the analyses, we proposed a change of the terms –from "In vision Sign Language Translation and Interpretation" to Sign Language Audiovisual Translation (SLAVT) –, thus hoping to start the debate about the importance of this translation modality for the effective inclusion of the Deaf Community in the Brazilian cultural context.
