| pt_BR |
dc.description.abstract | The aim of this study is to analyze the figure of Erzsébet Báthory through her presence in the works of Craft (2009) and Pizarnik (2011); the former seeks to provide a mostly historiographic account, comparing facts and rumors; the latter, on the other hand, opts for a fictional approach and, even though it incorporates some non-fictional elements, its account is mainly based on the imaginary derived from exaggeration and alteration – features that are typical in oral tradition – about the Blood Countess. The works of as Cohen (1996), Mulvey (1975), Reyes Ferrer (2014) and Delumeau (1978) provide the theoretical background to this study. . Báthory was an aristocrat married to a war hero and member of a wealthy family. After her husband passed away, she ended up in a distinguished social position, acquiring much more power and influence than it could be expected from a woman in her times. Factors such as having the crown significantly indebted to her and having her possessions coveted by many other nobles –who might have felt threatened by such a powerful woman – facilitated the monstering process and political prosecution that would take place around Báthory’s figure, which resulted in a monstrous character that has influenced pop culture up until today. | en |
