O verbo apostar e seus diferentes usos performativos

Abstract

Atos de fala são ações que falantes de uma determinada língua realizam através de palavras. Tal teoria surgiu com o filósofo John Langshaw Austin e, através dela, é possível perceber que o verbo apostar, um dos que Austin chama de verbos performativos, assume uma função diferente da que é a ele associada na tese que o autor apresenta. O objetivo deste trabalho é analisar o caso do verbo supracitado e suas características particulares, a partir das teorias de Austin e John Rogers Searle. Para tanto, mediante uma metodologia hipotético-dedutiva, esta pesquisa apresenta o estudo de uma função que esse verbo tem, a de declarar alto grau de convicção, o que pode gerar um outro ato de fala, que não seja uma aposta, verificando se os autores exploram tal caso em seus estudos.

Speech acts are actions that speakers of a given language perform through words. This theory emerged with the philosopher John Langshaw Austin and, though this, it is possible to perceive that the verb to bet, one of those Austin calls performative verbs, assumes a different function that the one related to it in the thesis that author presents. The objective of this research is to analyse the case of the aforementioned verb and its particular characteristics, through Austin’s and John Rogers Searle’s theories. For that, with a hypothetic-deductive methodology, this research presents the study of a function this verb has which is declaring a high level of conviction, what can produce another speech act, which is not a bet, verifying whether the authors explore this instance in their studies.
