"Mãe, eu tô na Netflix" : a percepção de mulheres negras e sáficas da vida real sobre as representações das personagens Kat Edison, de The Bold Type, e Fabiola Torres, de Eu Nunca, da Netflix

Abstract

A presente monografia tem como temática a percepção de mulheres negras e sáficas da vida real a partir da representação midiática de mulheres negras e sáficas construída nas personagens Kat Edison, da série The Bold Type, e Fabiola Torres, da série Eu Nunca, ambas da Netflix. O objetivo geral da pesquisa é entender como as mulheres negras e sáficas percebem as representações construídas pelas personagens Kat Edison e Fabiola Torres. A metodologia utilizada na pesquisa foi o método de triangulação de técnicas elaborado por Johnson (2010). Ademais, foram utilizadas as técnicas de observação encoberta e não participante (JOHNSON, 2010), de entrevista (DUARTE, 2017) e de análise de conteúdo (BARDIN, 2016). A partir da análise, conclui-se que as mulheres negras e sáficas da vida real se identificam com a personagem Kat Edison, pois, na representação construída, percebem que os papéis sociais da mulher negra e sáfica são subvertidos, uma vez que a personagem está em uma posição de poder e protagonismo. Já no que se refere à personagem Fabiola, há pouca identificação, pois a representação construída em torno da personagem não trouxe elementos nos quais essas mulheres poderiam se reconhecer, contudo não deixou percepções nocivas à imagem de mulheres negras e sáficas. No geral, observou-se que as identidades das mulheres negras e sáficas foram desenvolvidas nessas séries pela Netflix por meio de representações diversas presentes nas duas personagens, o que nos indica que as representações acerca dessas identidades visaram à pluralidade.

This monograph presents the theme of media representation of black and sapphic women of real-life, based on the perception regarding the characters Kat Edison from the series The Bold Type and Fabiola Torres from the series Never Have I Ever, both from Netflix. The general objective of the research is to understand how black and sapphic women perceive the representations constructed through the characters Kat Edison (from The Bold Type) and Fabiola Torres (from Never Have I Ever), on Netflix. The research methodology used the triangulation technique developed by Johnson (2010), as well as the techniques of covert and non-participant observation (Johnson, 2010), interviews (Duarte, 2017), and content analysis (Bardin, 2016). From the analysis of the research data, it was concluded that black and sapphic women in real life identify with the character Kat Edison, because in the representation constructed through the character they perceive that the social roles of black and sapphic women are subverted, since the character is in a position of power and protagonism. With regard to the character Fabiola, there is little identification, as the representation built around the character did not bring elements that these women recognized in themselves, however, it did not leave harmful perceptions to the image of black and sapphic women. Overall, it was observed that the identities of black and sapphic women were developed in these series by Netflix through different representations through the two characters, which indicates that the representations about these identities aimed at plurality.
