Riachinho

Abstract

Riachinho — trabalho de conclusão do curso de Licenciatura em Artes Visuais — deriva de uma imersão sensível na história e no imaginário da região da antiga foz do Riacho [atual Arroio Dilúvio] antes das obras de retificação e aterro que modificaram radicalmente a paisagem de Porto Alegre. São resgatados três topônimos: Riachinho, Ilhota e Rua da Margem [Rua João Alfredo]; lugares de memória desfigurados por mudanças toponímicas e projetos urbanísticos que expulsaram seus habitantes e suas formas singulares de ocupação da área central para zonas periféricas da cidade, expondo a não neutralidade de obras de renovação urbana que, na maioria das vezes, perpetuam relações de dominação de classe, religiosidade, gênero e raça. As histórias desses territórios negros, embranquecidos por reformas segregacionistas, são investigadas a partir de métodos de reconhecimento e contextualização que trazem à superfície repercussões de políticas de remoção e suas resistências, tanto em seu território quanto em suas representações. Busca-se reavivar um sentimento de comunhão em torno do Riachinho, considerando a sua relevância no imaginário afetivo e na memória ambiental de Porto Alegre. Este documento, simultaneamente histórico, artístico e educativo, reúne referências diversas na elaboração de contranarrativas orientadas para a afirmação do direito à cidade e de táticas de apropriação do espaço público. A pesquisa também se materializou na exposição Porto Alegre Toponímica, que procurou lançar um olhar museológico sobre a cidade e uma perspectiva comunitária sobre o museu. Concebida e organizada por Diego Passos, a mostra aconteceu entre maio de 2022 e março de 2023 no Museu de Porto Alegre Joaquim Felizardo.

Riachinho - final project of the Visual Arts Teaching degree - is the result of a sensitive immersion into the history and imaginary of the region of the old Riacho river mouth (now Dilúvio brook) before the rectification and landfill works that drastically modified the landscape of Porto Alegre. Three place names have been rescued - Riachinho, Ilhota, and Rua da Margem (João Alfredo Street) - places of memory disfigured by urban projects and toponymic changes that expelled their inhabitants and their singular ways of occupying the central area to peripheral zones of the city, exposing the non-neutrality of urban renewal works that often perpetuate relations of class, gender, and race domination. The stories of these black territories, whitened by segregationist reforms, are investigated through used recognition and contextualization methods that bring to the surface the resistances faced by the residents of these areas. The aim is to revive a feeling of communion around Riachinho, considering its relevance in the affective imaginary and environmental memory of Porto Alegre. This document, simultaneously historical, artistic, and educational, gathers diverse references in the elaboration of counter-narratives oriented towards the affirmation of the right to the city and tactics of appropriation of public space. Counter-narratives are strategies of contestation and subversion of the hegemonic narratives that justify the social and spatial inequalities present in the city. The research also materialized in the exhibition Porto Alegre Toponímica, organized by Diego Passos, which sought to launch a museological look at the city and a community perspective on the museum. The exhibition took place between May 2022 and March 2023 at the Joaquim Felizardo Museum of Porto Alegre.
