Dos campos às páginas : a participação negra na construção do futebol em Porto Alegre no pós-abolição (1907-1921)

Abstract

O presente trabalho visa investigar a participação negra no processo de construção do futebol em Porto Alegre em um contexto de pós-abolição. Tal participação se deu em duas frentes: no campo e nas páginas. Busca-se, em paralelo a isso, compreender os significados intrínsecos que o futebol assumiu para essa população nas primeiras décadas do século XX, numa perspectiva de associativismo negro e, também, verificar o desenvolvimento desse esporte na cidade através das páginas do jornal da imprensa negra: O Exemplo. O recorte temporal da pesquisa se localiza entre 1907 a 1921. A justificativa se dá pelo fato de que em 1907 marca a fundação do possível primeiro time do meio negro na capital e 1921 pois marca o primeiro aniversário daquela que se tornaria uma das principais organizações futebolísticas entre os negros: a Liga Nacional de Foot-Ball Porto Alegrense, conhecida popularmente como Liga da Canela Preta. A investigação, por consequência, busca também compreender o racismo e a racialização no processo de construção do esporte na cidade. Em um primeiro momento, o futebol era uma atividade estritamente de elites brancas, da qual só permitiu uma gradual inserção negra aos times e ligas tradicionais a partir da década de 1920. Entretanto, isso não impediu que parte da população negra criasse seu próprio universo futebolístico.

The present work aims to investigate black participation in the process of construction of football in Porto Alegre in a post-abolition context. Such participation took place on two fronts: in the field and on the pages. At the same time, we seek to understand the intrinsic meanings that football assumed for this population in the first decades of the 20th century, from a perspective of black associations, and also to verify the development of this sport in the city through the pages of the press newspaper. black: The Example. The temporal cut of the research is located between 1907 and 1921. The justification is given by the fact that in 1907 marks the foundation of the possible first half black team in the capital and 1921 because it marks the first anniversary of what would become one of the main football organizations among blacks: Liga Nacional de Foot-Ball Porto Alegrense, popularly known as Liga da Canela Preta. The investigation, therefore, also seeks to understand racism and racialization in the process of construction of sport in the city. At first, football was strictly an activity for white elites, which only allowed for a gradual black insertion into traditional teams and leagues from the 1920s onwards. However, this did not prevent part of the black population from creating its own football universe.
