Um olhar sobre a velhice feminina na obra de Lygia Fagundes Telles

Abstract

Esta monografia tem como objetivo analisar a forma como Lygia Fagundes Telles trabalha a representação da velhice feminina em sua obra por meio do exame dos dramas presentes das personagens e seu desenvolvimento narrativo. Com ênfase nas obras “As Horas Nuas”, “As Meninas” e nos contos “Senhor Diretor” e Boa Noite, Maria” , a representação da velhice feminina está atrelada a uma visão geral das mulheres e de seus dramas pessoais, que têm um desenvolvimento pensado na perspectiva de uma busca pelo realismo, tanto das relações interpessoais quanto das subjetivas, onde se busca apresentar as várias facetas da mulher e as angústias experimentadas por elas. Como base comum que liga essas diferentes representações, pode-se notar que as mulheres da ficção de Lygia Fagundes Telles geralmente têm vidas extremamente problemáticas, vazias e infelizes. A velhice feminina do ponto de vista das personagens pode ser descrita como análoga a uma doença incurável. E como tal, ela possui “sintomas” que são expostos quando a narrativa coloca o holofote sobre o lado psicológico delas, iluminando seus sentimentos, seus temores e suas reflexões. As mulheres retratadas nos romances e nos contos não conseguem se sentir bem com a idade e aceitar a inevitabilidade do envelhecimento, o que provoca certas atitudes em comum ao longo das histórias. Por meio de um diálogo com a filosofia, em especial com o existencialismo francês, busco refletir a respeito da condição própria da velhice vivenciada pelas mulheres.

The main goal of this monograph aims to analyze the way in which Lygia Fagundes Telles works with the representation of female old age in her work by examining the dramas of the characters and their narrative development. With emphasis on the works “As Horas Nuas”, “As Meninas” and the short stories “Senhor diretor” and “Boa noite, Maria”, the representation of female old age is linked to an overview of women and their personal dramas, which have a development thought of in the perspective of a search for realism in both interpersonal and subjective relationships, where it seeks to present the various facets of women and the anguish they experience. As a common basis that links these different representations, it can be noted that the women in Lygia Fagundes Telles' fiction generally have extremely problematic, empty and unhappy lives. Female old age from the characters' point of view can be described as analogous to an incurable disease. And as such, she has “symptoms” that are exposed when the narrative puts the spotlight on their psychological side, their feelings, fears and reflections. The women portrayed in novels and short stories cannot feel good about their age and accept the inevitability of aging, which causes certain attitudes in common throughout the stories. Through a dialogue with philosophy, especially French existentialism, I seek to reflect on the itself condition of old age experienced by women.
