Comunicação e memória em "1984": as estratégias comunicacionais de um estado totalitário e a construção da memória coletiva na obra de George Orwell

Abstract

O presente trabalho tem como objetivo compreender como as estratégias de comunicação utilizadas pelo Partido Socing interferem na construção da memória coletiva da população da fictícia Oceânia, na obra literária “1984”, de George Orwell. Para tanto, a pesquisa utiliza o método de análise de conteúdo e uma abordagem qualitativa para discutir as tendências e intenções do governo totalitário retratado na obra e implícitas nas práticas do Departamento de Documentação; na construção do imaginário social acerca do Grande Irmão e de seu inimigo, Goldstein; nos anúncios oficiais transmitidos pela teletela; e na estruturação da Novafala. Como resultado do estudo, pode-se afirmar que o controle da memória coletiva, aqui, se dá por um conjunto de fatores e articulações do Partido que tencionam exatamente isto. Portanto, pensando a partir da análise da obra que constitui o objeto deste estudo, é essencial que a comunicação pública sirva para a libertação individual, priorizando a pluralidade de olhares sobre o passado.

The present work aims to understand how the communication strategies used by the Ingsoc Party interfere in the construction of the collective memory of the population of the fictitious Oceania, in the literary work “1984”, by George Orwell. To do so, the research uses the method of content analysis and a qualitative approach to discuss the tendencies and intentions of the totalitarian government portrayed in the book and implicit in the practices of the Documentation Department; in the construction of the social imaginary of Big Brother and his enemy, Goldstein; in the advertisements provided by the telescreen; and in the structuring of Newspeak. As a result of the study, it can be said that the control of collective memory, here, is given by a set of factors and articulations of the Party that intend exactly that. Therefore, considering the analysis of the work that constitutes the study object, it is essential that public communication serves for individual liberation, prioritizing the plurality of perspectives on the past.
