Dividir silêncios e multiplicar lembranças : estudo sobre as relações entre memória institucional e identidades em uma unidade universitária na área de ciências exatas de uma universidade pública sul-rio-grandense

Abstract

Este estudo tem por objetivo analisar como se configuraram as relações entre memórias e identidades ao longo do tempo e se insere em uma perspectiva de estudos de memória de organizações universitárias. Aborda uma unidade universitária da área de ciências exatas em uma instituição pública de ensino superior sul-rio-grandense e a transmissão da memória ao longo de 62 anos de existência. Buscou o suporte teórico em estudos de memória social, identidades coletivas e teoria institucional para revisitar o conceito de memória institucional. Procurou aprofundar questões epistemológicas que fundamentam estudos qualitativos e as tradições teóricas que se entrecruzam nas escolhas metodológicas e no exame da memória como objeto transdisciplinar. Elegeu-se um estudo de caso qualitativo de inspiração longitudinal, conduzido no Instituto de Matemática e Estatística da Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul, com dados reunidos por meio de entrevistas, documentos e vídeos. A interpretação apoiou-se no instrumental teórico da análise do discurso, evidenciando metáforas e comparações como transmissores simbólicos de identidades e visões da organização. Os discursos permitiram formar redes de sentido que evidenciaram a memória institucional e as identidades de seus agentes. Os resultados das análises indicaram que a memória possui dimensões esquecidas e silenciadas, pois as interações encontram-se enfraquecidas e as identidades difusas. As mudanças institucionais podem ser percebidas entremeadas em longos ciclos geracionais, por isso não existe um planejamento para a transmissão de legados, embora tenha se observado que a longa permanência constrói identidades institucionalizadas. Conclui-se que as relações entre a memória institucional e as identidades em uma unidade universitária da área de ciências exatas em uma universidade federal de ensino superior são construídas e articuladas envolvendo um alto grau de complexidade, o que implica em dividir silêncios e multiplicar lembranças em um constante movimento entre o lembrar e o esquecer, entre o instituído e o instituinte.

This study aims to analyze how the relations between memories and identities have been configured over time and is inserted in a perspective of memory studies of university organizations. It approaches a university unit in the area of exact sciences in a public institution of higher education in the state of Rio Grande do Sul and the transmission of memory throughout its 62 years of existence. It sought theoretical support in studies of social memory, collective identities, and institutional theory to revisit the concept of institutional memory. It sought to delve into epistemological issues that underpin qualitative studies and the theoretical traditions that intersect in methodological choices and in the examination of memory as a transdisciplinary object. A qualitative case study of longitudinal inspiration was chosen, conducted at the Institute of Mathematics and Statistics of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul, with data gathered through interviews, documents and videos. The interpretation was based on the theoretical instrument of discourse analysis, highlighting metaphors and comparisons as symbolic transmitters of identities and visions of the organization. The speeches allowed the formation of networks of meaning that showed the institutional memory and the identities of its agents. The results of the analysis indicated that memory has forgotten and silenced dimensions, because interactions are weakened and identities are diffused. Institutional changes can be perceived interspersed in long generational cycles, so there is no planning for the transmission of legacies, although it has been observed that long permanence builds institutionalized identities. It is concluded that the relations between institutional memory and identities in a university unit of the area of exact sciences in a federal university of higher education are constructed and articulated involving a high degree of complexity, which implies in dividing silences and multiplying memories in a constant movement between remembering and forgetting, between the instituted and the instituting.
