In this work, the switch-breaker topologic model is used to represent the substations in short-circuit studies together with the node-branch model to represent the transmission network and transformers. This modeling was implemented and tested in the POWERWORLD®software using the WSCC-IEEE 9-bar test system. Three switching arrangements were implemented (main bus and transfer, breaker and a half and breaker - 5 switches), with each substation represented by a switching scheme. Power flow and short circuit simulations were performed with different combinations of switch sequencing and substation configuration, which proved the efficiency and accuracy of the modeling. This type of modeling and simulation is suitable, and fundamental, to assist in the adjustment of differential protection of buses in substations. To illustrate the simulations, the graphical results of the three-phase and single-phase short-circuits, on select buses, in the WSCC-IEEE 9-bus test system are presented. ...
