With the growth and expansion of urban areas in large metropolises and a restriction of zones for the construction of new electrical distribution substations close to the load centers, a great challenge arises for the compaction of new substation works. In this perspective, allied to new technologies, options emerge in the market, such as GIS (Gas Insulated Switchgear) and hybrid substations which significantly reduce the architectural space of a conventional substation. Therefore, this work presents a methodology for comparative analysis between three types of high voltage substations, evaluating investment and maintenance aspects. The methodology is applied to a case study involving a 15 MVA and 138/13.8 kV substation, to be implemented in an urban area. For this substation, projects are presented considering the conventional, hybrid and GIS arrangements. Maintenance-related costs are estimated for a given planning horizon, allowing for a comparative analysis between different technologies. The results of applying the methodology show that GIS technology presents the best cost-benefit ratio for the long-term analyzed scenarios. ...
